Pardon envy: Democrats vie to make the Biden pardon list
The Hill ^ | 12/7/24 | Jonathan Turley

Liberal pundits and press in Washington are facing a growing nightmare in Washington. No, it is not the victory of President-elect Donald Trump or the Democrats’ loss of both houses of Congress and the popular vote in this election. It is the possibility that democracy may not collapse as predicted, and Trump might not even round up his opponents en masse. For months, liberals have been telling voters that this will likely be their last election and that democracy is about to end in the U.S. ABC host Whoopi Goldberg declared on “The View” that Trump will immediately become a dictator who will “put you people away … take all the journalists … take all the gay folks … move you all around and disappear you.”

Many predicted they would be on the top of the enemies list and the first to be rounded up. Now, the moment is nearly here, and pundits are dreading that the public may notice there is no line of democracy champions being frog-marched down Pennsylvania Avenue. Faced with such a scenario and a further loss of credibility, many are coming up with the next best thing — pretending they stopped the roundup by having Biden pardon everyone. The spin will be that Trump would have gone after rivals but was prevented from doing so by Biden. The idea is to portray yourself as a white knight, riding down to protect the vulnerable and timid from the coming hoard.

Can’t we have trials and convictions even if it was assured these felons would escape justice via pardons?

Two decades?

He’s going to start with posthumous pardons for all the post Civil War democrat night riders, lynchers and KKK’ers.

I’ve been thinking what if Biden only gives one pardon to his son and Joe Biden lets the rest of the assorted guilty Democrats to hang in the wind.

That would fit in with his mantra of Don’t mess with a Biden. (mess replacing a curse word) They did make him step aside for Kamala as President.

President Trump should troll them. Mention he’s considering pardoning the entire Democratic party in case Biden missed any one.

The pardons will backfire on the democrats and Washington D.C. crime syndicate. It makes it politically easier to go after them with such brazen and obvious criminality on display. There are ways to use these pardons to compel testimony in criminal cases. The truth will come out.

For President Trump to "go after" somebody, that person needs to have committed a crime. Anyone who says that they need a pardon is essentially confessing to having committed a crime.

I still give it a 50-50 chance that Biden will pardon himself and his family and leave the rest of the swamp to face the consequences.

"ABC host Whoopi Goldberg declared on 'The View' that Trump will immediately become a dictator who will 'put you people away … take all the journalists … take all the gay folks … move you all around and disappear you.'”

If a supposed vindictive Trump Administration needed a hit list, having biden make one and then joe calling it a pardon list could be a big time saver. It must add to convenience when expected targets self identify.

Interesting that the president is nowhere to be found while this miles-long list is being compiled. He (or Jill) will just sign whatever is placed in front of him.

True.

There will be underlings who have not been fortunate enough to receive a pardon unless they pardon whole agencies. Those trials could call those pardoned to testify as witnesses and make them tell all the gory details of their crimes or catch a fresh perjury/obstruction charge themselves. The prosecution determines whether a witness has been forthcoming or not.

Being "pardoned" requires that you have done, or been convicted of doing (not the same), something illegal.

Reminds me of the Sheriff in Unforgiven when the whorehouse madam tells him "You just beat the **** out of an innocent man." He replied "Innocent of what?"

It’s not envy - democrats are criminals... they want on the list because they’ve been above the law for decades and now they’re scared they’ll have to pay the piper.

They will all plead “I can’t recall” when they are called to testify and after having been granted a pardon. Comey said “I can’t recall” 245 times in his testimony to Congress. That was about the same as Hillary. They will be smug as they know that they can’t be touched.

I’m curious if someone at the Hill feels the need for a pardon, since they are contemplating handing them out like candy on Halloween.
I think anyone taking such a pardon might find in the end it’s something like wishing on a monkey paw.

If the prosecutor believes that they are lying or obstructing they can and will be charged. They will be handed transcripts of emails and other communications to “refresh” their memory. They will either admit what they did which will implicate others in crimes or end up being criminally charged themselves. Again perjury and obstruction are at the discretion of the prosecutor.
