The Boston City Council voted unanimously to retain its status as a sanctuary city on Wednesday night, to “protect” illegal immigrants from president elect Donald Trump’s immigration policy.
All thirteen council members voted to reaffirm the city’s Boston Trust Act, which “delineates the distinct roles and responsibilities of the Boston Police Department from those of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), thereby promoting trust between local law enforcement and immigrant communities.” In other words, the act severely limits to what extent local authorities can work with federal immigration authorities.
“It’s not just a policy, but it is a promise to our immigrant neighbors that they are welcome here, and this is a safe haven, and they don’t have to live in fear of being unjustly scrutinized or even ripped away from their families,” Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata said at the Wednesday City Council meeting. “As we brace for impact, we’ve got to make sure that we all work together.”
ICE’s Boston office repeatedly asks authorities in Massachusetts sanctuary cities to aid in removing criminal illegal immigrants, and it is repeatedly denied, usually due to laws such as the Trust Act which allow cities to shield immigrants from federal authorities. In 2022, the Boston Police Department ignored twelve ICE detainer requests, per the Boston Trust Act.
In Boston in early November, ICE arrested Mateo Hincapie Cardona, an illegal immigrant charged with multiple child sex offenses, who had been previously arrested by the Boston Police Department. Local authorities did not honor the detainer ICE issued for Cardona and instead released the man from their custody.
Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities, of which Massachusetts has eight, and initiate mass deportations of illegal immigrants.

Suspend all federal spending in MA.
Initially President Trump should state he is going to focus those states that want to removed their illegal aliens and that he will leave the sanctuary states alone until the job is done elsewhere. The flood of illegals already here won’t need to be bussed out by governors, the will migrate and swamp the sanctuary cities.
I hope Tom Homan will throw Councilor Gabriela Coletta Zapata under the jail.
As a MA resident, I suggest that they nuke the site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
I love everything about Boston except for its hockey team and its politicians.
AND arrest The Boston City Council for treason ASAP
I would prefer that they just deport not just the illegals but the treasonous Americans it would be a win-win.
I agree, though in that Hate Box I’ll also include the Celtics and the Patriots, though technically they’re from Foxborough.
While the band Boston is an obvious front runner for musical bands to love from Boston, I’d also include J Giles and The Cars. There is also a simmering local prog rock scene (brought to you in part by Berklee), which is worth checking out. There are some cool local venues though Sammy’s by the sea in Revere just closed.
We should curate a FReeper list of local music venues by city. Capitalism works, and if we don’t go see bands and buy their merch, it’ll just be TSwift and Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé infecting the airwaves.
That’s what they’re after,,,THE FUNDING.
If we can’t logistically deport criminal immigrants to their country of origin, deport them to Boston and let those smartasses deal with them. They need a little POC diversity among their criminal class anyway.
Nothing would thrill me more than to see our filthy bull dyke Maoist Governor...and Boston’s Mayor...being led into Boston’s Federal Courthouse in cuffs to answer charges of harboring illegal aliens.
Two things you’ve gotta love about The Gay State...New England clam chowder and our hospitals (which is where I spend a lot of my time).
Of course we can deport them to their home countries. Anyone whose home country won’t take them should be given a parachute and....well,you know the rest.
Except federal spending for a hotline to ICE to report all persons harboring illegals and any public officials interfering with federal enforcement of immigration laws.
I would even offer awards to those with information on public officials breaking immigration laws.
Then put out a PSA blast on media.
Rather than sending them back to Mexico, Trump should dump all the illegals to the self anointed sanctuaries and cut off all federal aid to those places.
Give the sanctuary states and cities what they claim to want and give it to them hard.
On top of that Trump should put a big bounty on every illegal alien criminal and a $500 bounty to anyone who reports a non-criminal illegal alien that leads to an arrest and deportation.
Keep voting these clowns into office, Bostonians. 🙃
