Village People founding member Victor Willis has said that if the group was asked by President-elect Donald Trump to perform the YMCA for him they would have to "seriously consider" it.
Willis appeared on Fox and Friends where he reversed himself on an earlier position of not wanting the president-elect to use the song. He told the hosts, "I decided to allow the president-elect's continued use of ‘YMCA.’ because he seems to genuinely, genuinely like the song and so many other artists were stopping him from using their music."
"So I decided to contact BMI [Broadcast Music, Inc.] and told them not to terminate his political use license because he seemed to be bringing so much joy to the American people with his use of YMCA," Willis added.
When asked about performing for Trump's inauguration, Willis told Fox and Friends, "If you were to ask me today if the Village People would perform at the inauguration, I would probably say not because we'd be concerned about endorsement."
He added that if Trump asked for a live performance, the group would consider it for him, "Because the president-elect has done so much for ‘YMCA.’ and brought so much joy to so many people, the song has actually gone back to No. 1, and it's still No. 1 today, so if he were to ask the Village People to perform the song live for him, we'd have to seriously consider it."
Throughout the campaign, Trump has danced to the iconic disco song, playing it at the beginning and end of rallies. As a result, many have picked up the trend to the point where the song released in 1978 has made a resurgence in 2024. Along with the song, Trump's dance has also caught on with many online. During sporting events, some have also used Trump's dance for celebration in the NFL, UFC, and some soccer games.

There is excitement in the air!
YMCA is a fine song. I still wish they would choose a few numbers from Rush to play from time to time. Tom Sawyer would be a good start.
Don’t trust em. That scumbag Garth said he would perform in 16 and backed out when it got close. Then Brooks went a step further and discouraged others. It made it difficult for Trump’s team.

No Worries.
Here is Christopher, the one man dance band performing to YMCA!

So tonight on the five, hannity said there will be a country music performer at the patriot awards, anyone know who it will be?
Back in the 1970’s, I danced to YMCA and Macho Man, both by the Village People.
On the Mall, in front of tens of thousands, the biggest crowd ever!
If they limit it to those two and maybe Stayin’ Alive, I can tolerate that. But if a single note from Disco Inferno gets played, it’s war ;^)
Remember when we could enjoy music without worrying about the politics and proclivities of the artist(s)?
Trump has done more for their revenues than any one event or person since they started the band. Yet, the jerk says he would probably not play at the inauguration for fear that it would be an endorsemen5t. Screw him. Trump should switch to Disco Duck as his as his new campy theme song.
Red Barchetta. YYZ.
Yes!
Like to see a new version of the song as “M.A.G.A” instead of “Y.M.C.A.” which why I thought the campaign picked that song, but that might be too much to hope for.
No KC and the Sunshine Band?
Elton John and Jeff Bezos think Trump is great now.
