KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Ukraine for the first time in more than two years Monday and vowed to keep supporting Kyiv in the war, just weeks after he was rebuked by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for having a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The conflict is approaching a pivotal new phase, with the new U.S. administration of Donald Trump taking office next month and potentially determining the trajectory of the war after the president-elect´s pledge to end the fighting.
Ukraine is sensitive to whether cracks might be appearing in the unity of its Western allies to keep helping it against Russia, as Putin banks on outlasting the West’s commitment to Ukraine.

These Euro countries are going to suck us into another global war.
NO. Trump isn’t going to go to war.
What’s this “us” business?
Let them give all their money to ukraine.
As long as we send NOTHING.
This isn’t a NATO war...and to be frank..european countries letting Ukraine use their missiles deep into Russia is an act of aggression so even if Russia attacked them, which they wont, it’s not a NATO responsbility.
The whole thing is insane.
Russia can’t beat Ukraine!!!
They’re gonna take on the world.
Good grief.
Nobody really wants peace, do they?
I would like to hear a zeeper explain if they think Ukraine will suddenly do better and start beating Russia left and right and regain their lost ground.
Scholz is about to get the boot as his government collapses.
The nutty neocons are betting on cancer, the price of eggs, and Bigfoot to save their filthy slaughter of Slavs in the Ukraine.
EU Countries can support YouCrayne.
American Tax Dollars MUST END.
German election in early Feb....polls show Scholz/SPD Party in solid 3rd place (behind CDU-CSU, and AfD). Three of the lesser parties (BSW, FDP, Linke) in serious trouble...might not make the 5-percent point to get seats out of the election. Expect quiet a colossal change.
France’s government is about to fall as well. Just do a web search for the details. I also don’t know how long Starmer of the UK can stay in office. I predict there will be elections next year in the UK.
“Russia is just a gas station with nukes” to “If Russia isn’t stopped now Putin will take over the world.”
All the contrasting t are used alternately depending on the moment and the audience.
All of the resident Zeepers are getting their metaphorical teeth kicked in.
President Trump should have a steering speech on how he thinks that Germany and France can bravely go on their own to defeat Russia, they will be our champions as they fight Russia alone because they have decided to do so.

If CDU-CSU doesn’t get an outright majority, will they join with SPD to spite AfD?
does olaf spaz get 10% too?
no more US taxpayer dollars.period
end this proxy war.
let EU have it
Absolutely zero chance of a CDU-CSU and AfD coalition.
Either Greens or SPD are the junior partner. Remote chance that BSW recovers and gets offer coalition opportunity.
Olaf speaks with forked tongue.
He’s totally trying to make Germany a Chicom vassal state.
He’s pathetic.
“Absolutely zero chance of a CDU-CSU and AfD coalition.”
Thanks. I was thinking the same. Is it most likely CDU-CDSU the largest and SPD the junior partner? Argh, same as it ever was.
“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Ukraine for the first time in more than two years Monday”
I’m surprised that Russia is still giving permission for Western leaders to visit Kiev. Eventually that will end, as Russia all but promised to take out the Ukrainian Puppet Government in Kiev.
Since the unification, the CDU-CSU and SPD folks...in most elections...take a combined vote of around 55-to-60 percent, and if you use current polling...it won’t go past 47-percent. This means the ‘other’ parties (4 significant ones and 30-odd minor parties) will get the remaining 53-percent. The nation is highly divided.
Even among the CDU-CSU folks...you can find a dozen topics where there’s serious disagreement dividing them into conservatives-right and center-right groups. Greens are just as divided...some wanting a new discussion on nuke-power, and some wanting no-nuke-power.
On AfD...if you dragged out a dozen of the top people..six to eight come off as logical and respectful. But then you come to three or four who are more of a Nazi-character-type for some TV movie. AfD remains around because neither the SPD or CDU-CSU folks can get a grip on migration. Because of the declining birth-rate and man-power shortages...there has to be some type of open-door.
In this quickly developed election situation...it’s mostly about a recession, inability to settle the national 2025 budget, crime, the Ukraine-Russia war, the dying car-industry within the country, and escalating energy cost.
Thank you for the analysis. It looks like the election isn’t going to improve things for Germany.
