A Russian strike on energy infrastructure in western Ukraine on Thursday left more than 1 million people without power, according to local officials.

Electricity was knocked out for more than 500,000 households in the Lviv region due to the attack, according to regional Gov. Maksym Kozytskyi. Rivne Gov. Oleksandr Koval said the strike also cut off power for more than 280,000 households in the region, The Associated Press reported.

“The Commander of the Air Force, along with the Ministers of Internal Affairs and Energy, provided reports regarding the aftermath of the latest Russian strike targeting our energy infrastructure,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on the social platform X early Thursday.

This is war, this will happen in war and is to be fully expected.

The elite war mongers wanting WWIII will for the most part be immune from this as they have their secure bunkers to wait out the unpleasantries war offers.

Those cheer leading the war effort will experience power outages, no fresh water, sewage backing up into their homes, no food and roving gangs just like the rest of us.

IMO, it’s pure madness to want this war to continue. And it’s pure madness to try and get WWIII going before Trump is sworn in.

DITO

None of this should have ever happened.

An economic and human disaster of epic proportions because it was entirely preventable.

If by WWIII you mean nuclear war, then how does a month or two in a bunker and then emerging save you from anything except death during that period?

Where are their families and friends and social lives and lifestyle of travel and fine hotels, yachts and restaurants, New York, London, Paris, the film festivals, where are the international support systems for their private jets and yachts and the people who manned them and all the reasons to be rich, how would the rich even travel and communicate with others crawling out of their first class caves?

Where are their corporations, industries, and real estate holdings, and everyone who ran them and bought from them and made them valuable? Where is the fine beef, the spices, the imported fruits and vegetables, the seafood, the new fashions and fine automobiles, where are the great medical centers and world famous surgeons to treat them?

Where are their political offices and governments, glamor and sophisticated entertainment, where exactly is their power and the people who even recognize them or care who they used to be and about their influence in a previous world?

Realize, a power grid is fixed, an easy target, locations known... The Russians have executed a limited war and it is us that is continuously escalating things as the tide turned and we began losing 2023.

Once Russia partially mobilized, game over.

Russia had a peacetime economy and defense posture pre Ukraine. They didn’t even have a large military force along their Ukraine border.

Ukraine had just caused a war (yes, we caused this with our NATO East expansion) with someone that is 3.5 times their population, has more industry, more manufacturing (something like 10 times), more military aged males, more gdp, more ppp, more military stockpiles, a bigger intel service, nuclear weapons, a greater political and economic reach globally...

Highschool lesson: it’s not smart to look a kid 3.5 times your size in the eyes and say “F you,” and think that you’ll be OK because you have a big friend. Unless your “big friend” is willing to go to fists for you, which we are not, you’re getting an ass beating.

On thread after thread we see people holding two opposing thoughts in their head.

1. Nuclear war will send humanity back to the dark ages, EMP, nuclear winter, most humanity dead if not instantly then within months, not just from radiation and starvation but from the destroyed infrastructure of life, commerce and production, farming, medicine, everything, and all that resulting in anarchy and disease for the few remaining.

2. Number one doesn’t apply to the rich, to government leaders, and to the deep state, for some reason once they exit their plush bunkers they still get to yacht to the Cannes Film Festival, and then jet to NYC for a show and fine dinner before hitting the boutiques on Rodeo Dr in LA, all while checking their growing financial portfolios and the stock market on the internet, and contacting the property managers of their extensive real estate holdings by cell phone.

---- "I hope Trump ends this ASAP"

China and India have populations of about a billion each. The EU has a population of more than 450 million. One or more of them can "take the lead" in opening negotiations to end the war.

We're about 340 million. One nation among 195 nations. Let some one or more of "them" take the lead for a while.

Trump is being set up, I suspect, to derail his many domestic goals.

I agree on all points. While I do have my opinions on the political aspects of this war, my heart breaks for the combatants, their families, and the citizens, on both sides, that are paying the price for this war being waged by crooked politicians...

I have a friend that was born in the soviet state of Georgia. He graduated from Georgia Polytechnic Institute as an electrical engineer. He has a wife and two children. When Russia invaded Georgia, he lost most everything when he escaped to Ukraine with his family. He moved them to Lviv, Ukraine - the city in the posted article. Less than a month before Russia invaded Ukraine, he sent me a Morse code key for amateur radio use. He explained then that shipping was already a problem, and the key would go by truck until it as out of country, and then by air to the U.S. Shortly thereafter, he advised me that he and his family were traveling west on the M-10, escaping into Poland. So, for a second time, he had to take his family from their home, leaving behind much, to escape the Russians. It took 4 weeks for the Morse key to arrive. I’ve not heard from him now for some time... I pray it’s only because he’s lost my contact information or some such.

And so... it pisses me off to no end when people that have never experienced the horrors of war sit on the sidelines and cheer on the continued slaughter and suffering like it is a sporting event, even to the point that “WWIII” is being used in conversations, with the possibilities of that becoming real. No one hates war worse than someone that has been in one (or two), and it’s the last thing that I want for my country.
