Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday he had a “good call” with President-elect Trump following the incoming U.S. leader’s pronouncement that he would impose a 25 percent tariff on Canadian goods when he takes office.
“I had a good call with Donald Trump last night again,” Trudeau told reporters Tuesday. “We obviously talked about laying out the facts, talking about how the intense and effective connections between our two countries flow back and forth.

The president is making his opening bid, with time to negotiate. Very refreshing compared to the congressional Republicans who negotiate against themselves ahead of time.
“Good conversation” went like this: Trudeau: “You win Mr. Trump. We will secure our border. Please don’t slap tariffs on us.”

Of course we would not put a tariff that high on Canadian goods. It’s a bargaining chip.
The only time I remember us punishing Canada was over dumping lumber at below market prices. But that was specific to lumber.
