Spanish MIM-23 HAWK surface-to-air missile systems are currently in Poland, with plans for their transport to Ukraine scheduled for tomorrow, November 24. This follows Spain’s earlier confirmation of preparations to send the systems, making Spain the first country to provide MIM-23 HAWK missiles to Ukraine in 2022, during the initial year of the conflict.

Ukrainian sources report that the country is currently operating enhanced HAWK Phase III air defense systems. Despite their age, these systems remain highly effective, thanks to extensive upgrades carried out during the 1990s. The Ukrainian Air Force has showcased the HAWK’s ability to intercept a variety of airborne threats, including Shahed drones and Kh-59 cruise missiles.

Oleksandr, a Ukrainian operator, described how the HAWK system was utilized to intercept Russian cruise missiles and Shahed drones. He emphasized the system’s effectiveness against these threats, sharing his experience with its successful use.

“Raising the stakes”

What utter nonsense! The Russians, out of the blue, deploy an entirely new and totally invincible class of intermediate range conventional and nuclear MIRV enhanced weapons and we trot out Curtis LeMay’s finest air defense.

Madness!

utilized to intercept Russian cruise missiles and Shahed drones.

Ukraine seems to be volunteering for more ICBMs with MIRVs.

They are not ICBMs, but IRBMs - there are only 9 remaining of that type.

No weapon system is invincible. Maybe superior for awhile.

As a kid I bought and built a model of the first hawk system.

Putin depends on a high oil prices to fund his war. Trump should take the price of oil so low that it is impossible for Putin can continue his war. Trump should ship so much to Europe, India that they don’t want or need Russia.

“Basic HAWK was developed in the 1950s and initially fielded in 1960. The system has been upgraded through a series of product improvements beginning with the Improved HAWK in 1970. The Phase III product improvement and the latest missile modification were first fielded in the early 1990s to the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC). Two missile modifications have extended the missile’s field life and added electronic counter-countermeasures to defeat special threats. Development was completed on HAWK mobility, the latest system improvement, and it was produced for the USMC and Sweden. The U.S. Army National Guard (ARNG) as well as 20 allied nations, including NATO and several countries in both Southwest Asia and Southeast Asia, were also equipped with the HAWK system. Prime contractor for this system is the Raytheon Company. The cost per missile is $250,000; per fire unit, $15 million; and per battery, $30 million.”

Trump will make peace and stop the killing. Your suggestions are unnecessary to that process.

Fun facts: We called the HAWK system ‘Holiday and Weekend Killers’ or ‘Husband and Wife Killers’. It was a very hard system to maintain and operate by the best US ADA soldiers. Good luck keeping them in operation...

As an E5 MotorSgt in a HAWK GS/GM unit I had the Commander stand me at attention and tell me “I don’t care if none of my trucks run as long as my missiles fly!” To which I replied “If you’re shooting down MIGs over El Paso International Airport you’ve already lost the war.” Probably the closest I ever came to a Court Martial.

It seems like everyone wants WWIII.

The only good news is those directly targeted by Russia’s new missile will never know what hit them.

Trump can’t get into the WH fast enough to end this madness.

LOL. Guys overseas would make sure they’d give the hated COs a good snappy salute out in the field. Good enough to be seen for a long ways off.

You know what they thought of that.

Maybe for NATO’s new generational Cold War but not for Project Ukraine. This war is OVER. The Uke military will collapse this year or DC will start WWIII before that can occur.

“...these systems remain highly effective, thanks to extensive upgrades carried out during the 1990s”

The upgrades were made THIRTY YEARS ago and the systems are still effective? That smells like high octane BS.

How many hundreds of millions in MIC profits made upgrading and maintaining these obsolete systems?

This war is OVER.

Copy and save that sentence.

You'll be needing to paste it into posts the rest of this year and years into the future. Eventually, you will be right and the 'war is over' will be true. But for now, nah!
