How Hegseth Cultivated an Image That Caught Trump’s Eye

WASHINGTON—During his first term, Donald Trump would sometimes interrupt meetings on military or veterans’ issues to call Pete Hegseth, a Fox News host who impressed the president with a blunt style that mirrored his own.

Hegseth railed against Pentagon leaders on television and pushed pardons for soldiers convicted of war crimes, a contrast to the cautious career officials who frustrated Trump. For his second administration, the president-elect has nominated the telegenic 44-year-old Army veteran to be his defense secretary, despite—or because of—a résumé thin on government experience.

“President-elect Trump might look at Pete Hegseth as someone who will carry out his views,” said Mick Mulroy, a top Pentagon official in Trump’s first term. “Someone with a lot of experience would likely be more independent in the deliberation process.”

But the very reasons that drew Trump to Hegseth are threatening to derail his nomination.

Nasty, snarky little hit piece authored by three witches who could have come straight out of "Macbeth." They refer to soldiers who were pardoned by Trump as having been convicted of various military offenses but do not mention the reasons for the pardons.

Now that Gaetz has been removed, RINO’s and democrats will now refocus their efforts on Hegseth.

He was number 2 on their list.

I agree. I’m not usually real judgy about this stuff but honestly the guy is train wreck romantically. I read up on Hegseth’s bio and when the Democrats get finished laying out the facts I don’t think he’s going to make it.

Personally I’d feel a whole lot better with Chris Miller or Ric Grenell in that spot. We don’t need the drama.

Can you substantiate your concerns? What is it that bothers you? The fact that he has two ex-wives? But so does Trump. Otherwise I don’t see anything wrong in his background.

He is not being appointed as husband. Most good Generals were not great husbands.

Sadly, high achievers seem to be very prone to flawed personal lives. Maybe because they think they can get away with it (because they often do).

I recall seeing a documentary about Patton — not slanted pro or con. It was clear that he was a beast at home, especially toward his wife. His daughters especially hated him for it.

There might be a better position for Pete in the cabinet or administration. Considering his raging hormones and poor choices, he’s an ideal target for blackmail by other countries and enemies.

Agree about his romantic life, but he seems to have come to the Lord in the past 6 or so years and repented. I’ve not been a big fan because of his past, but am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just think it the election had gone differently, we could be looking at Liz Cheney as secretary of defense

Why is that any of your, or the nations, business?

We’re hiring him to run DoD not to be a pastor.

“Can you substantiate your concerns?”

Sure. Hegseth has been married 3 times. He admits he has cheated on all of them. In 2017 when he got into the Kerfuffel out in CA he was still married to wife #2 and had hooked up with a Fox news colleague who he got pregnant.

While his new squeeze was home nursing a one month old baby Pete was out in CA at an event chasing women for sex. He totally admits he was drunk and pursuing a woman at the bar.

Unfortunately for him the woman he was coming on to found him creepy ( no chit! ) and called Pete’s event hostess or whatever they’re called to come get him off her. Instead the event hostess who had her husband and child at the hotel ended up going to Pete’s room with him and things transpired from there depending on who’s version you believe. It was likely consensual and she called rape when hubby found out.

I won’t go into the nitty gritty details which are available to look up online as to the actual sex stuff but basically its just gross. Apparently nobody ever told Pete about HIV or where babies come from as he was running around having unprotected sex with strange women.

So finally two years later he gets married to the 2017 baby mama and I guess so far either he’s keeping it in His pants or she hasn’t found out anything yet. But what are the odds?

Anyway none of this stuff is anybody’s business while Pete Hegseth is a Fox News contributor but in a position of responsibility as huge as the DOD that’s absolutely a consideration. It goes to character and reckless behavior.

Apparently Trump did not know about all of this nonsense when he nominated Hegseth. And now he’s going to watch the Democrats have a field day.

My understanding is that Trump is vetting his nominees through private security firms not the FBLie which I don’t blame him. Apparently this little incident didn’t pop up on the background check and Pete “forgot” to tell Trump about it.

I’m not usually real judgy about this stuff but honestly the guy is train wreck romantically.

Not looking for a fight but urge you to further consider whether his romantic background is even relevant.

Would be willing to bet that a few of those in your family's network of friends and associates or that you prefer for professional services, have 2 ex-wives.

Judged by the behavior of others, our nation is in a global war for its survival and yet you would reject as the top military advisor to our president a combat commander who is a proven military leader, because he has been twice divorced?

That sounds recklessly "real judgy" to me when selecting a warrior, but then I am not a woman.

Things have changed. Blackmail only applies if you have some scandal to hide. Now that silly things like character, morals and integrity are relative instead of absolute blackmail isn't much of a tool of persuasion. I wonder if one day so long as you only killed one person you are better than the last guy who killed two? Standards have been steadily eroding. Funny thing about power and indiscretion or corruption.

I have a cat with raging hormones. Found him abandoned and raised him from tiny on a bottle but he has taken to marking territory and clawing everything in sight. I'm afraid I'm going to have to curb his inclinations before he messes up too bad. I'll still like him, maybe even better.
