Georgia's Republican attorney general, Chris Carr, said Thursday that he's running for governor in 2026, becoming the first major candidate from either party to announce a bid.
Prominent Republicans and Democrats are eyeing the seat, which will be open in two years after term-limited Republican Gov. Brian Kemp leaves the office. Other potential Republican contenders include Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
Carr is portraying himself as the best candidate to continue steady Republican leadership in the mold of the late U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, former Gov. Nathan Deal and Kemp.
"I've seen what it takes to be successful," Carr told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "And I want to run as the proven conservative who will create jobs for hardworking Georgians, keep our families and neighborhoods safe and vigorously defend our Constitution and freedoms."

I was hoping for Doug Collins but he has taken the position of head of the VA in the Trump administration.
I’m going to have to fully reinvestigate Carr’s role in all the prior 2020 election fallout and what he actually did in trying to make sure state statutes were/are enforced.
I’d also like to know just where he fell on the side of the consent decree SoS Raffensperger signed with Democrats here before that. I’m certainly not going to just sign up to vote for him because Kemp or any other Georgia public official endorses him/her.
I'm not looking to Carr for my next governor. Need more options.
it’s like elections never end :)

I know. They could have given us a few months (or even weeks) free from election campaigning. But no, they had to start immediately with “who is running in 2026”?
And ln other Georgia political news:
“State Republicans take first step toward banning transgender women from women’s sports”
That is great news.
They’re saying “oh there’s barely any transgenders in sports in GA so it’s a non issue”/
WRONG.
One is too many. And “progressives” never stop at what they say they want...they want a whole lot more.
If it’s not a big deal, then what’s the big deal about passing the law? Why fight it?
But it needs to be at the federal level too.
And if left wing states want to fight Trump on everything...well that could cross the line into insurrection.
And that would need to be dealt with.
Carr is an acolyte of the globalist Kemp and a stealth anti-Trumper! Enough said!
What you said.
NO TO CARR
That brings to mind poor old Black Alvin Bragg. By reaching too far for the Brass Ring, he fell off the candidate for governor horse.
I wouldn’t vote for any of them. Raffensperger needs to be put in prison.

Yep. Carr turned a blind eye to the obvious fraud in the 2020 election. Kemp told him to ignore it and so he did. Carr would be a continuation of Kemp’s administration. I assume Kemp is going to next run for one of the GA Senate seats. Or, he may have a place reserved for him on some Chinese business corporate board.
