Thousands of people have protested in London over changes to inheritance tax for farmers announced in the Budget.
Among those marching in Whitehall was TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson, who said "it's the end" for farmers, as he called for the government to change its mind.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he understood farmers' concerns and "wants to support" them but added "the vast majority" would be unaffected.
From April 2026, inherited agricultural assets worth more than £1m, which were previously exempt, will be liable to the tax at 20% - half the usual inheritance tax rate.
However, many farmers argue that while they are asset rich - for example in terms of their property and livestock - they are cash poor and the changes would mean they would have to sell up to be able to pay the tax.

This was snuck into the recent budget and farmers are outraged.
They’d be doing the same thing in the US but Trump stopped them in their tracks.
The normal inheritance tax is 40%? That is not taxation; it's confiscation.
I think Keir Starmer is trying to set the record for shortest period between winning in a landslide to losing in a landslide.
FWIW, £1m ≈ $1.27 US dollars
Stalinesque
All taxes are a blight on working people, the little people, everywhere.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he understood farmers’ concerns and “wants to support” them but added “the vast majority” would be unaffected. So then you’re telling me, Starmer, it’s OK to steal from people as long as it’s not “the vast majority”. Right?
Something tells me we’re gonna have to bring down the defect by confiscating wealth for a period. A farm is kinda hard to do if the family lives there. Bill Gates will leave his kids nothing. Everyone starts from square one. It’s fair. What’s not fair is deficit spending.
Guess again! It’s $1,267,491.38 United States Dollars
The kulaks must pay says Comrade Starmer.
Seems like the same stuff they were trying to push through in the Netherlands 2 years ago
Drive generational farmers off the land, have hedge-funds and governments take over, move in solar farms and migrants.
FWIW Clarkson owns a farm and has a show on it on Prime. Brit farmers routinely take it up the cornhole from the Gvmnt.
IMO, England is done. I wonder how Scotland is doing? Do they have the same stupid policies of DEI? Probably so since they are under the Crown's rule. I ask because I'm mostly Scot. Also, when did Scotland give up its sovereignty? Guess I'll do some research.
Stupid evil socialists.
And it will end the same way. Expect them to take direct action they wont be taking this quietly or otherwise
Back in 1972, Eugene McCarthy campaigned for president on a platform that would eliminate inheritances. All property would be given to the state to dispose of as they saw fit.
Nixon won.
Well, one likely consequence of importing millions of military age men from a violent culture: when the food gets cut off they will not be polite about it and some heads will end up decorating Westminster’s exterior. This should please the lefties, after all they’re just “doing jobs the british people won’t do’ right?
Work hard, save, try to help your children; screw them over and tue government gets rich. 😡😡😡😡
