Auburn City explores possible legal action over developer’s destruction of Bald Eagles’ nest
WRBL ^ | Nov 17, 2024 /

A video posted by John Braswell, a resident closely monitoring the bald eagle nest in Auburn, revealed a devastating sight Saturday morning: the tree cradling the nest had been cut down, scattering its contents. For years, the nest was home to “Pam and Jim,” a pair of bald eagles beloved by the community.

As neighbors gathered near the site off N College Street across from AU Fisheries many were brought to tears as Pam and Jim were seen flying in tandem over the area where their nest once stood, appearing to search for their missing home. “It’s just so sad,” one neighbor said. “They keep circling the spot—it’s like they’re looking for it.”

The destruction of the nest has sparked outrage in the community, with Mayor Ron Anders and the entire Auburn City Council expressing anger and frustration over the actions of Hughston Homes. The City of Auburn has directed its legal team to pursue an investigation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to determine if the developer violated federal regulations in removing the nest.

What, the birds forgot how to make another nest in another tree?

In the heyday of the spotted owl scam I worked as a firefighter in California. Of course EVERYTHING had to be banned in the forest to “protect” them because they could ONLY live in that one tree that was going to be cut down. They found them nesting in billboards and lighted store signs all over. northern California cities. And turns out another owl type is doing the killing.

People do it all the time.

There’s nothing unusual about that.

On the contrary it’s good that he did because they caught the developer. Because you KNOW what would have happened to an ordinary citizen had they messed with the eagles.

The American grizzly embodies the spirit of America. He should be our symbol! Not that ridiculous eagle - he’s nothing more than a dandified vulture.

Even if there were eggs in the nest, it doesn’t matter. Since the eaglets hadn’t hatched (been born) yet, they really weren’t eagles ...

“And turns out another owl type is doing the killing.”

Yes, it is the barred owl and gooooooooberment is not letting nature take its course. Gooooooooberment has hired people to go in and shoot the barred owls to protect the spotted owl.

What is so special about the spotted owl in regards to the barred owl?

So, why is that any different than our dams being destroyed and eagles dying every day because their entire habitat is destroyed because their river and lake is DEAD and the landscape for miles is covered with poison silt! My son tells me Heron are scavenging along the side of the freeway searching for food!

This is a wooded are north of town. There are lots of research ponds plus a small river nearby.

Eagles of course mainly eat fish.

I used to work at AU Fisheries many years ago.

Benjamin Franklin suggested the turkey. I like your idea. Franklin’s, not so much.

At least there would be no chicks in the nest this time of year.

“What, the birds forgot how to make another nest in another tree?”

Heh, yeah. No matter where the tree with an Eagles nest is located, Eagles nest in it until it falls down. And they all fall down. Then guess what they do.
