Decision Desk says Republican Nick Begich has won at large district in Alaska.
One of those seats looks somewhat better than the second one—which is totally up in the air.
I don’t think they’ve done RCV yet in Alaska, so not official. But Begich at 49% has a 3% lead on the DEM incumbent. Begich *should* win.
I thought with ranked choice voting the final winner has to be calcululated AFTER all votes are counted and the inital winner has at least 50%???
My understanding is that ranked choice is calculated if the leading candidate does NOT reach 50%. Which is nuts, but then, the whole idea is nuts, just a democrat construct to gain unearned votes.
Alaska uses a unique ranked-choice voting system, and the winner will need to receive over 50% of votes.
Nick Begich is at 49%.
92% est. reporting
The candidate in third place represents the Alaskan Independence Party, which is conservative leaning. This bodes well for the Republican nominee, even if he doesn’t reach the 50% mark.
In California, the Democrat is winning District 21. The Republican is winning District 13. The Republican is narrowly ahead in District 45, but that race is closing. The Democrat will likely come from behind and win.
Yes, and I read how RCV proceeds. The DEM incumbent would need 80% of the votes from the 3rd and 4th place finishers to win. This assumes everyone selected a 2nd choice. I'm hearing that isn't the case. The more people there are who didn't select a 2nd choice, the more likely Begich will win.
I'm liking them odds.
Best part: Alaska repealed RCV.
“Best part: Alaska repealed RCV.”
I hope it takes place immediately.
Alaska win makes me happy because it was a ranked vote state. They have now voted rank to the circular file.
Looks like it will end up R-221 to D-214

I had been wondering about that. Thank You for the report.
So I’m wondering how he can be declared the winner when that requirement has not yet been fulfilled.
It appears the remaining two races are CA13 and CA45 both in which the GOP candidate is leading. CA45 is “just barely” and I’m assuming they will steal that one from Michelle Steel.

The guy in 3rd place is Alaska Independence Party. If you look precinct to precinct it looks like 75% of his voters were for trump so likely their 2nd choice was either blank or for Begich.

The repeal does not affect this election, if that is where you were going with this.
