As the cost of living continues to soar in major cities across the United States, innovative housing solutions are emerging to address the growing crisis of affordability and homelessness. One such solution is the introduction of sleeping pods in San Francisco, a city notorious for its exorbitant rental prices.
The sleeping pod initiative
Brownstone Shared Housing, led by CEO James Stallworth, has recently made headlines by revealing that a staggering 300 individuals have applied for just 17 available sleeping pods in downtown San Francisco. Each pod is priced at $700 per month, a fraction of the average rent in the city, which is reported to be around $4,000.
These sleeping pods are designed to provide a low-cost housing option in one of the most expensive urban areas in the country. Measuring approximately 3.5 feet by 4 feet by 6.5 feet, the pods are large enough to accommodate a twin mattress. Each pod is equipped with privacy curtains, interior lighting and charging ports, making them a practical choice for those in need of affordable shelter.

There’s San Fransicko there for you.
A building with tiny rooms and additional options makes more sense.
Install 300 sleeping pods with 100% nitrogen inertion. Send out a clean up crew every morning. Get the pods ready for the next night. = homeless problem greatly reduced after a few nights.
Driving east of SF on I-80 you will encounter open country and small towns as soon as you get past Davis.
And eastbound into Nevada, from Reno to Salt Lake, there is open country for 600 miles. Lotsa space in Lovelock, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Elko, Wells and even Wendover (called “bendover” in SLC since it’s the nearest casinos).
More then enough room for thousands of “homeless”. But...they’ll need to do manual labor to build houses, farm, etc. Lotsa jobs in Winnemucca right now to support the future Lithium mine going in north of town.
So uh...pods are nice, but there’s plenty of room in the West. Hopefully Doug Burgum will start the process of de-federalizing the west and allowing settlement to happen.
And SF will maybe...MAYBE...recover.
Naaahh...too far gone
Here a novel notion. Move out of San Francisco, and live better for cheaper. Unless you are a drug dealer or entrenched Democrat.
Yep.

Make them walk cross country on unused railroad tracks. Give them backpacks with tents and sleeping bags. Add just enough food to last 100 miles where they can replenish their supply. Their blood sugar and pressure will go down. Make America healthy.
Get the government out of the way, get people into treatment, either mental, or addiction therapy and lay down the law that either you give up the drugs and drink and start working or you get a one way ticket to some camp out in the desert where you can drink, smoke, snort and inject your life away but you never return to civilization. These hopeless addicted people are a suicidal drain on society and there is NO good reason to let that continue.
These aren’t a solution for the homeless, who cannot begin to afford $700 a month.
all well and good but you are dealing with alcohol drug and mental illness they need more than a pod
Yes. Although I’m not really optimistic, I would love to see movement in that direction. The country has tons of open space. And our cities (mostly on the coasts) are crowded and trashed and pretty pointless at this point. Moving lots and lots of people into open spaces would be good for a lot of reasons. Maybe a new Homestead Act which could provide basic “pod” lifestyles for the lazy, but a more rewarding lifestyle for anyone willing to do some manual labor to build houses and farms.
Those pods won’t be rented by homeless or do jack squat to reduce the number.
They will be rented by people who work in SF.
Why would we want a bunch of bums from SF moved out to Nevada? No thanks to your idea. Why don’t we just put them in jail for vagrancy like we used to do. Some even reformed their lives. Worked just fine.
There is no solution to the so-called "homeless". They consist of:
Veterans with PTSD;
Mentally impaired;
Drug addicts;
Alcoholics;
Many many people who just refuse to live in our Society. We used to call them hoboes, tramps, and bums.
For those with mental impairments, re-opening the mental institutions that were shut down years ago may help some and would definitely get them off the streets. Those who think they're more free by ignoring the norms of our Society can never be helped. They want that lifestyle.
I know the above because I left home at 17 (dysfunctional parents) and slept in cars, garages, and in a sleeping bag in fields for a time...until I got a job and could afford a crappy single apartment.
Does it have an automatic feces cleaning option?
Ive said all along, we need CCC-style camps for the homeless
Arrested for vagrancy? 6 months at a CCC-homeless encampment
Minimum security, Quonset huts, with beds and hot water. They can get basic medical care, have mental illness treated and be kept away from drug-dealers. They can work for min wages.
I can see it not working in places like California or New York, because bloated, leftist govt unions will take over and turn it into a super-expensive grift.
The most cruel system is the one we have now.
