President-elect Donald Trump will reportedly nominate campaign surrogate and former Democrat Robert Kennedy Jr. as Health and Human Services Secretary.
"I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health. The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country," Trump released in a statement Thursday. "Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!"
Donald Trump Jr. also confirmed the news on X.

During his own presidential campaign against President Joe Biden earlier this year and as a backer of former President Donald Trump, Kennedy has vowed to take on Big Pharma and corruption fueling the health crisis in America.

Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump is that it puts the incoming Republican administration at loggerheads with the very Big Pharma, Big Food and Big Agricultural interests that have been traditional bastions of Republican support.

Here in NY 8 years ago, RFK Jr., via his “Riverkeeper” NGO, convinced Andrew “nipple rings” Cuomo to shut down the Indian Point nuclear plant (which closed in 2021) on the Hudson River
It supplied 30% of baseload electricity for NY City. It had been operating without problem since the early 1960s, was fully depreciated and produced electrical power for under 3 cents KWH (while most residents of NYC pay 30 cents KWH!)
In the case of HHS though, I won’t mind if he turns his radical views on the bloated bureaucracy there.
Personally, I suspect Kennedy is half right and half nuts. But I’ll take it just to get back at the Covid Cartel!

But there has to be in place a circuit breaker where JR does more harm than good. But I am glad he got nominated for this particular post. It was the one he coveted the most and he deserves an appointment. It might be difficult. A recess appointment might be needed in this case. On another topic I fully support Tulsi for her appointment just for the simple fact that all of the usual neocon warmongers are so upset about it. If Bolton doesn’t like it that’s proof to me, they are both worthy and will be Loyal MAGAs.

Dang, I should have taken a couple courses to qualify as a lab technician in the area of food safety.
Let’s say chemical “X” is used in a pesticide. Studies show an increased incidence of condition “Y” in middle and old age since X came into widespread use. But is X really the problem? There are hundreds of variables. Is “X” by itself the problem, or is there an interaction with some other environmental factor, one which might be easier to deal with than discontinuing X. What is the cost / benefit ratio of discontinuing X? Is there a reasonable substitute, and will it have negative side effects that turn up in 35 years? More study... (Yes, there can be ways to accelerate studies, but they have limitations too.) Will farm yields be reduced? We are already a food importing nation. (Yeah, I know, that one stunned me.)
Don’t get me wrong, this stuff needs a really deep dive. It will be a LOT of work.
He cannot do any real harm, and might do some real good, at HHS.
