Oversight Committee To Grill FEMA Chief Over Directive To Skip Trump Homes
Daily Wire ^ | Nov 9, 2024 | Leif Le Mahieu

Rep. James Comer asked for FEMA administrator Deanne Criswell to appear before the committee on November 19...

he House Committee on Oversight and Accountability announced Saturday it would be holding a hearing to investigate FEMA after The Daily Wire reported that a federal employee ordered relief workers in Florida to skip the homes of people with signs or flags supporting Donald Trump.

Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to FEMA administrator Deanne Criswell asking that she show up to testify before lawmakers on November 19. The letter comes after whistleblowers told The Daily Wire that they were instructed by now-fired FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington to “avoid homes advertising Trump” when offering relief in Lake Placid, Florida.

“This hearing will address FEMA’s response to recent major natural disasters, including Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and permit members to investigate recent reports that a FEMA official instructed relief workers to bypass hurricane-impacted homes displaying campaign signs for President Trump,” Comer wrote in a letter to Criswell.

... “In the wake of the recent major disasters that impacted Americans of all political persuasions, it is critical that FEMA adheres to its disaster relief mission,” Comer added.

Multiple government employees from the relief team told The Daily Wire that at least 20 homes were skipped because of the guidance. The employees said this guidance was given both verbally, as well as in a group chat used by the relief team.

Criswell announced on Saturday that Washington had been fired.

“More than 22,000 FEMA employees every day adhere to FEMA’s core values and are dedicated to helping people before, during and after disasters, often sacrificing time with their own families to help disaster survivors. Recently, one FEMA employee departed from these values to advise her survivor assistance team to not go to homes with yard signs supporting President-elect Trump,” she said in a statement. “This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation. This was reprehensible.”

...

Criswell said that the incident had been referred to a special counsel for investigation.

“We take our mission to help everyone before, during and after disasters seriously. This employee has been terminated and we have referred the matter to the Office of Special Counsel. I will continue to do everything I can to make sure this never happens again,” she said.

Numerous lawmakers have announced inquiries into the guidance, including Republican Senators Katie Britt (AL) and Josh Hawley (MO).

The whole federal government operates with this kind of political bias. Hasn’t anyone listened to their leadership for the past 20 years? Employees tend to align their work product with the will of the boss. When the boss is a corrupt Marxist hack, the boss still needs to be pleased with your work product in order to get your bonus and promotions.

The government is not your friend, therapist, insurance underwriter, or saving grace. Let your state governor deal with fedzilla. Your life will improve greatly if you understand this.

It was carried out by a lower level supervisor. The ‘It wasn’t me’ statements will be a waste of time.

Nonsense political theater.

NOTHING will happen. Gov’t bloat and corruption will continue apace.

Even if Trump is able to do 10% of what he, Vance, RFK and Ramaswamy have talked about, it will be a wild success.

They can certainly probe why she was hired in the first place.

True enough. And the FEMA chief will soon be looking for new employment. But the fact remains that a low-level supervisor gave such an order and the workers apparently followed it needs to talked about. Interesting to see if the dems on the committee try to defend it.

It’s more obvious all the time that women are TOO petty and small to have authority and responsibility

Personally, having worked in an all female workplace for so long, I didn’t need proof!

“This employee has been terminated” is a good start, but anyone who followed that illegal order also needs to be terminated. The “Nuremberg Defense” is not an acceptable defense. It wasn’t accepted after WW2, and it should not be accepted now.

No need to grill just fire her. Then fire about three levels worth of management and appoint DJT people to replace them.

I’m sure the outcome will be a costly investigation, costly hearings, firing with a lifetime pension and healthcare, and maybe even some monetary settlement to the affected citizens. This will all be accomplished with good ole taxpayer dollars.

Qualified immunity should not exist for such a blatant denial of civil rights. This should be a quick case, with a quick indictment, and a speedy trial in the area that was affected, Central Florida. That is the only taxpayer monies that will be needed and the bankrupted Marn’i Washington will be working off her debt in federal prison for two decades.

To do anything less only encourages similar, no accountability behavior.

FEMA , and its employees, got our tax money

for emergencies

they LET people DIE of exposure

i expect them to do the job they got paid for

their malicious malfeasance got people dead

accountability must have a severe deterrence when life and death are involved directly
