WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will become the first sitting president to visit the Amazon rainforest later this month when he travels to Brazil as part of a six-day trip to Latin America for a pair of international summits, the White House said Thursday.
Biden will start his trip with a Nov. 14-16 visit to Lima, Peru, where he will meet with President Dina Boluarte and attend the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. From there, he will travel to Manaus and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil from Nov. 17-19.

Now that he doesn’t have to pretend to be supporting Kamala in her election, seems reasonable to let the old geezer have some fun. Maybe get in a little sightseeing. Make another entry in the Guinness Book of Records. Bring back a few souvenirs for the Biden Library. Listen to some good, old-fashioned cheering without wondering which side is going to protest today.
Wonder where the high street fashion stores are? How about bringing the kids along for a quick vacation in the sun while everyone back home is freezing. Isn’t that what being President is all about? Being able to get away from the boring life surrounded by constant people in the White House.
And aren’t there some great beaches in Brazil. Maybe topless? And what’s the point of sticking around anyway? No one wants to talk to him anymore. Everybody’s busy. Or crying. Or zoning out. Brazil. Yep. And maybe if things go well, he can sneak in a last few weekend trips to some Caribbean islands - just to say goodbye to the diplomats, of course. That’s the duty of a President, isn’t it?

Why go to the bother of actually travelling there? His handlers should just set up a couple of potted rubber tree plants, vines, and maybe a caged parrot or two in the White House garden, and tell him it's the Amazon. Close enough for govt. work!
And as far as simultaneous interpreters are concerned: They know all they have to do is throw in a couple of references to "ice cream" and "little girls," and they'll have captured the gist of whatever it was Biden was trying to say.
