An Oxford University student killed himself after becoming a victim of “pervasive cancel culture” over an unproven allegation made by his ex, a UK court has heard.
The body of 20-year-old Alexander Rogers was pulled from the River Thames on Jan. 15 — just days after his friends and classmates stopped speaking to him when his former partner aired the unknown allegation, This Is Oxfordshire reported.
The unspecified allegation was not reported to authorities or the school, but resulted in Rogers being “ostracized” as part of a “pile-on” effect, a court hearing into his death was told.
Dr. Dominique Thompson, an expert who probed Rogers’ death, called the student a victim of “pervasive cancel culture.”

Young adults these days can be quite brutal about this sort of thing.
People suck.
And to be honest, the people on the receiving end seem to be inexplicably fragile. The genX in me wants to tell them to suck it up, tell whoever “they” are to go eff themselves and walk your bad ass down the road, head held high.
People rush to judgment even faster today. They don’t want to hear alternative views.
It means NOT talking to nor replying to a person and was/is a form of social punishment; however, it used to have time limits.
So perhaps the FALSE accusation was what drove the young man to suicide. Or....he could have just been a SNOW FLAKE.
Memo to lefties:
Bullying is never virtuous.
Sad story a few years ago. A father, his voice cracking, addressed the school students and the media after his young son killed himself after being voted as “the Biggest Nerd in School.”
“To you he was a chance to feel superior and to get a lot of laughs at his expense to humiliate him but to me he was my son and I loved him.”
Very sad
I wish someone could have been there for him.
A permanent solution to a temporary problem.
You can always make new friends. Once you kill yourself there is no chance for a future.
Idealistic young people are cruel. But they are the future and the best of them make changes for the better or worse.
All these prestigious universities are turning out complete and total a@@-holes, who aren’t above persecuting other students for bigoted reasons, and even driving them to suicide. Trade schools and community colleges are the only valid education now. You want to read the classics, history, philosophy, teach yourself Greek or Latin, study at home, or in the underground, provided there aren’t any gunmen hiding from the cops in the tunnels after shooting their boss.
Oxford. Not very smart. Ok.
Trump could write a book about how to resist cancel culture and save lives.
People can be so cruel.
I have no sympathy for these type people who can’t handle life when they’ve seen little of it.
He was cancelled..oh the horror.
People go guano crazy and feel perfectly entitled to harass people when they have no idea what is actually going on.
Some people on FR get all upset about how "judgmental" we are on some of the threads (yep) but overlook the fact that while we may think someone is guilty, innocent or totally out of line what we do not do is go harass the poor chump. Government agencies are another story but they deserve it. Maybe not in that instance but in general, they deserve it. Just be nice to the poor person answering at the front desk.
And no matter what you generally only have part of the story. Sometimes there is nothing in the part you do not have to justify the part you do but often there is.
Because we are smart enough to know that we are just people BSing on a board not God Almighty and avengers of the downtrodden.
I think the people who harassed this poor guy to his death are scum. But I am not going to track them down and harass them. That is the difference.
“ I have no sympathy for these type people who can’t handle life when they’ve seen little of it.”
Well yes, but he killed himself.
Have some empathy
This not saying a name of someone you don’t l8ke or agree with. Or and refusing to interact with a person or essentially calling them poison is all 6th grade junior high mean girl stuff.
These view people were never the popular crowd at school. They were the mean girls and that is their only response.
Childish.
There is one guy who follows around a poster here and puts vicious irrelevant crap in the keywords, unfortunately.
I don’t see what he gets out of it, it doesn’t stop the victim from posting bUT it does make the site look bad for leaving it there.
Being cancelled now days means job offers withdrawn would wide. It means that family members may also become unemployed. Your dad can be kicked out of his nursing home.
It goes way beyond a few people not speaking to you. And you can't get away from it.
How to resist cancel culture.
Have FU money.
A lot of it.
