Republican voters who left the Democrat stronghold of California for neighbouring Nevada could help win the swing state for Donald Trump, supporters and a senator have claimed.
Some 150,000 Californians have moved across the border since 2020, and now make up 20 per cent of the state's population.
It is not clear how many of these are Republicans, but the gap between registered Democrats and GOP members has been narrowing - from 111,000 in 2020 to 71,000 in 2023.

Californians moving to Idaho have been predominantly registering as Republican — something like 70%. So they are actually making Idaho even MORE red.
Some of my neighbors here in California have moved to Nevada. They are conservatives.
That helps explain the excellent Nevada early voting numbers:

If this happens, I’m due for a large helping of humble pie.
Same here. All are good conservatives who vote.
That reminds me, swordmaker's in that boat, or was last I knew, and he's not posted since April, looks like. And for the first time ever, he didn't post his Landlady's Tale.
Many of the ones I knew who moved from CA to NV were CA state workers looking to avoid CA state income taxes on their Cadillac CA state pensions.
I have close friends and family members who have moved from California to Texas in the past seven years.
Nine of them. Seven voting straight R. One apolitical and does not vote. One will vote lib, it’s a kid of theirs.
I know four from Colorado moved to Texas all voting straight R.
So my close enough to know, Texas immigrants sent a net R positive of 10.
Don’t hate your refugees!!
At least they can do “racist” math.
Lol.
‘Communist’ Democrat stronghold indeed and they are prod of it just trey to get out of it the cost is outrages.
My wife and I moved from Sacramento area to Reno and we already voted for Trump 😊
Where are they going? Nevada and Arizona surely. Oregon and Washington as well. Texas...possibly.
Yeah I hope everything is ok with Swordmaker, I have reread the Landlady’s Tale every October since he first posted it.
My uncle moved to Idaho a couple of years ago. He lived in California his entire life and at the end, felt betrayed by the state. I’ll probably leave at some point too. This state doesn’t want normal, hard working, regular people.
It makes laws that help criminals and it loves homeless encampments, and monetary policy that drive businesses out. In California, if you can’t be labeled as a victim, you have no status. I’m certain some men act like they are women (today’s most highly touted victim) just so they can get a job... ;>.
“felt betrayed by the state”
No kidding; that describes us, too. We bought our place in North Idaho seven years ago but kept our place in the Bay Area. We feel as you do — the utter insanity and horrible governance in CA is beyond belief. Another friend on FR reported a couple days ago that his CA school district is banning “girl” and “boy” as “divisive.” I drove my son to the federal building in San Fran this morning to get his passport. The filth in the Tenderloin area has gotten far worse than I remember it.
It’s still nice here on the Peninsula with great weather and wonderful hiking trails all over with magnificent vistas. I can’t quite bring myself to finally cut loose from CA because of the natural beauty that I so enjoy, but every passing year it gets harder and harder.
California is the worst-governed state in the country and Idaho is near the best-governed. What a contrast.
“California ex-pats who left ‘communist’ Democrat stronghold since 2020 could now win key swing state for Trump, Republicans say”
Doesn’t seem to be that way in Texas. Many of the California imports seem to be bringing their politics with them. I hope I’m wrong and Allred aka Allblue looses big time.
“California ex-pats”? Why use that term when they have moved to a different state and not to a different country?
“You need a Jim Brown, an Otto Graham AND a Marion Motley.”
Or, Haslam to sell the team.
