UAW leader Shawn Fain makes final appeal to divided membership

The leader of the United Auto Workers (UAW) made a last plea to union members to vote for Kamala Harris on Tuesday night casting the presidential election as a fight between the interests of the working class and billionaires.

“I want you to know where your union stands. I want you to listen to how your UAW leadership thinks about this election and I want you to keep an open mind,” said Shawn Fain, president of the 391,00-strong union.

“I know that so much of our political system in this country is focused on bullshit, the back and forth, the name-calling, the focus on things that don’t affect our day-to-day lives as working-class people.”

Fain said the union had a responsibility to get involved in political activity, quoting the late UAW president Walter Reuther that “there’s a direct relationship between the ballot box and the bread box and what the union fights for and wins at the bargaining table can be taken away in the legislative halls”.

Fain characterized the past 40 years in the US as a one-sided class war on the working class that the billionaire class has been winning, citing the decimation of labor unions in the 1980s, the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta) in the 1990s, the concessions made by the working class in the wake of the 2008 recession, and what he referred to as the “new Gilded Age” in the 2010s.

Obviously keeping manufacturing jobs with "Made in the USA" is not a union priority.

Yup. Go ahead and vote for the destruction of the auto industry and for the end of your jobs.

Never was.

Any time you see a "proud union home" sign it is a demonRAT.

The goal of the unions is to keep the money flowing to their upper management.

If unions were held to the standards of businesses they would all be shut down and their management in prison for various felonies up to and including murder.

Biden-Harris has brought Detroit to the brink of collapse mandating EV.
Voting for Harris is putting a loaded gun to your head.

We'll just ignore the fact that most of the wealthiest billionaires are Democrats.

Sure hope the pink-haired face-pierced crew can come through for you and afford to buy your cars. As for me, who really can afford a new car every year, one of the first things I’ll do before buying a new car is to make sure the UAW has had nothing to do with it’s manufacture. If I find UAW fingerprints on any car, it’s off my list, period.

UAW lost about 90% of membership since the peak in 1979.
I guess, this is not enough.

BTW, the membership understands and likes Trump. Only the bosses are Dems.

UAW membership must be voting for Trump: “Hear me out” and “keep an open mind” are conversation starters to people whose minds are firmly made up. They wouldn’t say such things if Harris had the respect of the rank and file.

Hey Shawn Fain - How about Trump voters boycott all Cars made by UAW workers? and boycott the Dealerships - no parts, service, etc.

Perhaps the leader of the United Auto Workers should be honest and let his union membership know that he is probably a MILLIONAIR!!!!

I know, union boss and HONEST shouldn’t be used in the same sentence.

It is true, you can’t fix stupid. The elites Democrats hate the rank and file autoworkers and their union sides with these horrible politicians. Instead of stupidity, maybe it is insanity.
