LA Times union begs readers not to cancel the subscriptions that pay their salaries after blasting owner
Fox News ^ | Oct 24, 2024 | Alexander Hall

The union representing employees of the Los Angeles Times implored readers not to cancel their subscriptions after criticizing the owner for his role in the paper's controversial decision not to offer a presidential endorsement this year.

Semafor first reported the non-endorsement Tuesday, saying the decision came from the paper’s owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong. L.A. Times editorials editor Mariel Garza, who resigned the next day over the issue, also pinned the blame on the owner.

However, Soon-Shiong claimed on X Wednesday that it was the Times editorial board that chose not to offer an endorsement, not him, and he had accepted their decision.

The guild that represents many L.A. Times employees, after criticizing company leadership, asked readers not to abandon the publication that pays their salaries.......

"It makes us look craven and hypocritical, maybe even a bit sexist and racist. How could we spend eight years railing against Trump and the danger his leadership poses to the country and then fail to endorse the perfectly decent Democrat challenger—who we previously endorsed for the US Senate?" she wrote.

She continued, "The non-endorsement undermines the integrity of the editorial board and every single endorsement we make, down to school board races. People will justifiably wonder if each endorsement was a decision made by a group of journalists after extensive research and discussion, or through decree by the owner."

It seems hypocritical to me to expect the LA Times to endorse a presidential candidate that won no presidential primaries from the voters. Or that the LA Times failed to notice that actual democrat primary winner was senile.

Worse than not winning any primaries. She did not win a single vote... not one. Not one single person.... not one. Not in 2020, not in 2024.

Upon further exploration, it appears the owner of the LA Times gave editors an alternative path to endorsing a candidate.

Read this excerpt from the CNN story, Los Angeles Times editor resigns after newspaper owner blocked plans to endorse Harris:

Seems like a great opportunity for the newspaper owner to reduce editorial cost at a time when readers are increasingly getting their news/opinions from social media and internet outlets... and 80% of the stories can be written by AI.

"Ma'am, I gladly accept your resignation!"  Do you agree, fellow FReepers?

It makes us look craven and hypocritical, maybe even a bit sexist and racist.

Yes, of course! Not endorsing a non-White, female candidate always smacks of sexism and racism! Why not always throw that into the mix!

Those words no longer have any power here!

"Begone, before someone drops a house on you, too!"

And wouldn't failing to endorse Trump likewise be "sexist" and "racist?" After all, Trump has both a sex and a race. He's namely male, and he's White. Thus, failing to endorse Trump would be "misandrist" and "anti-White," right? Ri-ight?

“The Editorial Board was provided the opportunity to draft a factual analysis of all the POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE policies by EACH candidate during their tenures at the White House, and how these policies affected the nation.” “With this clear and non-partisan information side-by-side, our readers could decide who would be worthy of being President for the next four years,” he wrote. “Instead of adopting this path as suggested, the Editorial Board chose to remain silent and I accepted their decision.”

A factual analysis would have been "sexist" and "racist," dontcha know!

The LA Times is a carbuncle on the ass of life. They are a destructive menace. Good to see them go.

How could we spend eight years railing against Trump

that is the question - how could the LA Times rail against Trump specifically and Republicans generally for 8 years, ignoring the large minority of Los Angelinos that are not democrats without finally, admitting out loud, their "reporting" is biased and opinionated tripe devoid of any semblence of impartiality?

Maybe the new owner wanted to clean house. So, he directed them to not endorse KKKamala, knowing they would quit as a result.

“How could we spend eight years railing against Trump and the danger his leadership poses”

They are openly admitting they are a leftist propaganda organ.

We know that but they are not supposed to say it out loud.

Lol.

This is like a potpourri of goodness:
- Crazy editor resigns
- Staff all suffer TDS
- Leftist propaganda paper faces shrinking readership
- Fewer readers means lower salaries
- The union is weakened and looks like fools

I want to sign up for a free subscription just so I can say I contributed by canceling it!

These people are like all liberals; they’re trapped in a permanent state of stunted adolescence and as such often behave as emotionally immature and often violent 10 year olds.

Well, this is a FIRST. A union actually looking out for the jobs of its workers. Obviously, the leadership of this union is corrupt and needs to be arrested and jailed for doing such a HORRIBLE thing. Otherwise, my God, other unions might actually follow suit and, for the first time, actually work to IMPROVE the lives of its workers and also IMPROVE this country.

So I’ll take this as a one-time failure of the union leadership to do their PRIMARY JOB, which is to bring down their company. There is NO WAY this can be allowed to stand.

I think the editorial board did their assignment and, once the pros and cons were laid out, they realized how bad it made Kamala look so they had no choice but to forego publishing the results.

This non-endorsement is them hiding their head in shame.
