Some of these people he describes do exist. I have a new co-worker who relocated from southern California. He seems personally conservative in his way of life, but he said some generic down things about Trump, and described how his wife despises him. Best I could tell, this very social fellow took his cues from the people around him in California. Connecticut has a milder version of the same thing.

A lot of people vote for someone based on nothing more than his demeanor, ignoring policy, performance, ethics. They take Presidential elections no more seriously than a vote for Prom Queen. So maybe Sanders has a point, of sorts.
