Church Street, a prominent area in Burlington lined with boutiques and upscale restaurants. They admitted that in recent years, the idyllic downtown on Lake Champlain has become an area where significant numbers of homeless people congregate.

Among them are individuals addicted to hard drugs like fentanyl, families who have been negatively affected by the economy, as well those who have turned to crime to support their lives on the streets.

...

Vermont itself has seen a 500% uptick in drug overdose deaths in the last ten years. Local outlets have reported that first responders have been overwhelmed by the number of overdoses in the city.

Despite the compassion that residents and local business owners say they feel towards the homeless, especially those suffering with mental illness and drug addiction, many admitted they’ve been concerned about the effects on the local economy, tourism and the well-being of residents.

This is an example of what Bernie offers his constituents.

Vermont is overflowing with Socialists. And the mentally ill. But I repeat myself.

I drive through Vermont fairly often on my way to Montreal. I’m always astounded by all the cars I see up there with “Bernie” bumper stickers.

“Homelessness, drug addiction, public safety concerns”

Pretty much hallmarks of ANY liberal city

Let liberals live with the consequences of their ideology and voting.

Normallly, rich white liberals have been able to insulate themselves from Al of that.

It’s be wonderful to resettle the 20-30k Haitians in Ohio and other places, before they’re flown back to Haiti. Give the liberals more of a taste of what they brought on the country.

Vermont winters tend to discourage homelessness.

Gee. Ya THINK?

How do so many stupid people end up owning businesses? This sounds exactly like ‘The People’s Republic of Madistan’ and State Street.

My first question, on seeing the headline, was philosophical. Should Democrats be safe to walk at night? Shouldn’t they be in fear of the consequences of their actions?

This shows how crazy the homeless are. Why would you go to cold, dreary
Vermont when you could be in San Francisco? (Or better yet, Los Angeles).

Not in San Francisco. Just look at what happened to Paul Pelosi when a bum invaded the Pelosi’s home and tried to murder him. Needed a big dog and a big gun but didn’t have either. I have both and keep the gun close by.

Don’t kid yourself

What makes the Burlington situation remarkable is that it’s not much of a city at all. It has all the defects and dystopia of New York and San Francisco, but it would really be considered not much more than a large town in most parts of the country.

...an area where significant numbers of homeless people congregate.

Modern euphemisms.

Seems awkward though. There should be a word for such an area.

Vermont is 90+% white and voted for Biden(66%) to Trump(31%) in 2020. I’m sure covid hysteria contributed slightly to this margin.(Clinton 57% Trump 30% in 2016)

Foreigners are only 4% of the state population BTW.

What hell is going on in Vermont?

Answer: Just another New England state voting like they’re part of the UK.
