Washington — House Speaker Mike Johnson diverted Sunday on questions about possible violence and security concerns ahead of the certification of the presidential election results early next year, citing election integrity as a "greater issue."

"There's a lot of great work that's been done at the federal, state and local level to prevent the chaos that ensued after 2020, the COVID election year," Johnson said on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan" on Sunday.

When asked about protecting security at the Capitol ahead of Congress' counting of the electoral votes on Jan. 6, 2025, Johnson made assurances that steps have been taken to harden the facilities, while arguing that the "bigger story" revolves around election integrity.

Raskin’s already signaled that there’ll be violence if DJT wins.

It’s ridiculous. Jan 6 happened with over a million people protesting in DC. No such thing is going to happen around the election.

Right.
Does anyone believe the Dems after losing the election will say “We gave it our best. Congratulations and we will be the loyal opposition, working with the Republicans in harmony for the good of the people as we united our great nation. Maybe we’ll win next time.”

Past evidence: Setting fire to an SUV near the Trump 2016 Inauguration speech, earlier Rodney King riots, BLM destruction of businesses, antiwar riots in the 60s, tent cities and unrest and vandalism of buildings and statues due to anti-Israel protests. And lots more.

Old times:
Losing Dem candidate Hubert H. Humphrey in 1968, his voice cracking as he fought back tears:
“I have done my best. I have lost, Mr. Nixon has won. The democratic process has worked its will, so now let’s get on with the urgent task of uniting our country.”

Jan. 6 was a mostly peaceful protest. Tell me how I’m wrong.

There were a lot of violent protests for extended periods of time after 2016. BLM and Antifa took to that.

The threat has always been from the left.

One day, when the truth comes out about Jan6, the Dems will never mention it again.

But we will.

Remember how they projected about DJT and the transition to Biden? They said DJT simply wouldn’t leave.

This is going to be interesting.

Can these reporters state that every vote cast was proper and in accordance with the law? Of course not. They can only say that they think the cheating was not sufficient to impact the election....but they do not know that as a fact.

I saw just the last few seconds of that broadcast and only caught speaker Johnson saying something like if things go the way he hopes it will Republicans can “start running the country again.” Nothing about supporting the American people. He isn’t a conservative.
