Tensions rise between Harris and Biden teams as election nears
Axios ^ | 10/13/24 | Alex Thompson

The relationship between Kamala Harris' team and Joe Biden's White House has been increasingly fraught in the final weeks before Election Day, 10 people familiar with the situation tell Axios.

Why it matters: Biden's team wants Harris to win the election, but many senior Biden aides remain wounded by the president being pushed out of his re-election bid and are still adjusting to being in a supporting role on the campaign trail.

"They're too much in their feelings," one close Harris ally said of the president's team — a sentiment shared even by some White House aides. Driving the news: Some on the Harris team say that top White House aides aren't sufficiently coordinating Biden's messaging and schedule to align with what's best for the vice president's campaign.

Biden gave an impromptu press conference in the White House briefing room Friday just as Harris was about to do an event in Michigan, ensuring that her event would get less TV coverage than it otherwise would have. Earlier in the week, Harris criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for not taking her call about the recent hurricanes, only for Biden to praise DeSantis soon after for being "gracious" and "cooperative." (A person familiar with the situation told Axios that Biden hadn't been briefed on Harris' comments.)

Joe is that old guy that the kids want to force to give up his driver’s license permanently AFTER they’ve already force him to give up his car. watched it happen a few times and it ain’t pretty.

It’s the Democrats’ fault. All they had to do was to open up their primaries earlier this year. There’s a chance somebody like RFK Jr may win the primaries. I get that they did not want that to happen because RFK Jr is not controlled by the party. But this is what is happening right now due to their manipulation.

Biden hates Harris, he always has, he never wanted anything to do with her, Jill hates her guts, ever since Harris called her husband a racist to his face..Jill told her to go “f*ck herself” Biden would love nothing more than to watch Harris lose so he can say “I told you a-holes, I could have beat him but you kicked me out” honestly, biden had zero chance of beating Trump too..Harris just made it a race, with Biden, Trump would have beaten him by 20 points

If it had been RFK Jr against Trump there is a VERY good chance RFK Jr would have won the Presidency

Why it matters: Biden's team wants Harris to win the election,

I'm not sure I believe this. I now think that Biden wants his legacy to have been as the only candidate who has ever beaten Donald Trump.

I think him being forced out of the race and then immediately endorsing Kamala was one of the most sentient decisions he ever made and a masterful "F YOU!" to the people who forced him out.

Obama and Pelosi wanted to be in charge of picking Biden's successor. They wanted Josh Shapiro but they knew they had to grease the wheels first and get Kamala on board. They needed a few days to bring Kamala in as a team player and have her willingly step aside for the good of the party. "Now is not my time. We need to come together to beat Donald Trump." The script was already written.

But once Biden endorsed her, all that momentum was destroyed. Obama and Pelosi could do nothing other than begrudgingly agree and offer their support.

Joe Biden knew at the moment exactly what he was doing. If they were going to force him out, he would take the White House with him.

It also goes without saying that Dr. Jill hates Kamala. She certainly had a role in this as well.

Correct.

Or Gavin Newsom.

Kamala Harris is a crappy candidate just like Hillary Clinton. Except Hillary is smarter. And she can do interviews and press conferences. Her arrogance turned off voters in 2016.

Kamala Harris' is Joe Biden's nuclear option. Her incompetence protected Biden's presidency because we didn't want Kamala Harris to be President.

So... if he had been briefed on her comments, would he have said DeSantis was an uncooperative jerk? That seems to be the insinuation here.

It’s comedic to watch. Harris can’t win by saying she will do the same things as Biden so she distances from him making his legacy look poor. Biden has too much pride of leaving a good legacy (his perspective) so he cannot accept the negativity from Harris.

You typically see this kind of storytelling in books and movies. We get to see this live in real life.
