As if Hurricane Milton’s devastating winds and storm surge were not enough to worry about, a wildlife expert is warning of another danger— hungry alligators.
Christopher Gillette, who operates an animal sanctuary in northern Florida, warned his Instagram followers that the alligators “are going to be on the move in the floodwaters” in the wake of the storm.
“Make sure you’re staying out of the floodwaters the best you can,” Gillette said in a video crouched beside an alligator.
“Obviously there’s emergency situations, people are going to do what they got to do, but if you can try, stay out,” he said.
One terrifying video, obtained by ABC7 News, shows a North Fort Myers resident dodging the teeth of a massive alligator outside of his home on Wednesday night.
The man opens their car door and the alligator can be seen leaping out of the floodwaters chomping down on the vehicle just feet away from him.
“That was a big f–king alligator that just bit our tire!” he yells, jumping back.

Might be a snake or two moving about as well.
Look out for your pets. I’m scared gators may eat my pet dingo.
I’d suggest they send a bunch of Hatians down there to eat the gators.
Gators are pretty tasty.
The best post-hurricane videos are always the ones where someone finds a gator in their living room or kitchen.
Or vice versa!

It’s only been one day?
That’s a Win-Win.
In my 2 visits to FL golf courses, I was plainly told to expect an alligator in any body of water & don’t try to retrieve golf balls in the water hazard. Large parts of FL are about to qualify for the same warning.
The storm will also be flushing out the sewers... don’t drink the water. (Do we actually need to to warn people about this?)
They do, but there are idiots everywhere.
I am guessing the idiots think the gators are cute and you can pet them?
Fire ants! You don’t expect those little jerks to be a big hurricane threat but they are. They ball together in a flood to protect as many as they can. When the ball runs into you, they swarm to higher ground... all over you. It sucks.
Eat the gators or feed the gators?
I have heard it said that alligators are considered part of the security system at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station ...
A profit motive. Sell tickets to that show.
Imperial Rome understood how to make that work ...
