Shoppers considering spending some time in retail superstore outlets at the end of next month might need to rethink their strategy.
Walmart will not open on Thanksgiving Day for the fifth consecutive year to enable staff across the country to enjoy some family time, the company announced Monday.
Target is also remaining shuttered on the holiday.
“Walmart stores will be closed once again on Thanksgiving Day so associates can spend the day with their families,” a corporate statement from the outlet announced.
The company has made clear however it is offering its first Holiday Deals event of the season starting in October for customers to get started on their holiday shopping choices.
Target also will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Glad they will be closed. Their workers deserve the holiday off.
I dont know what they 'deserve', but family holiday time should be encouraged.
I know a lot of retail workers who would prefer to have the option of working holidays for extra pay.
Now that human labor has become so expensive, that option is no longer available to a lot of them.
“I know a lot of retail workers who would prefer to have the option of working holidays for extra pay.”
“extra pay” to buy more useless stuff their employers are selling, and minus the fed’s money-printing inflation their wages would be worth more without holiday pay
Did you hear that in Iran they don't have Wal Marts?
They only have Targets....
Make Sunday Great Again.
I have fond memories of how still and tranquil Sundays were as a kid in the 60's and early 70's. Hardline retailers were closed completely all day, and grocery stores had abbreviated hours to allow for church attendance. Even though open, grocers couldn't sell certain items not related to food or baby items.
Street traffic was light and most cars were going to of from Church, or after-church lunch. It's was a nice respite for nearly everyone.
They just kept moving the openings back.
Was first their regular opening time on Friday.
Then they moved it to 4 AM
Then Midnight on Thursday.
Then 6 PM on Thursday.
I hope the retailers realized it was just the same shoppers buying the same sale items regardless of when they opened so all they did was cause themselves additional labor costs by being open.
And the employees probably resented being forced to work on the holiday instead of relaxing at home with family.
That’s awful w____ of them. Don’t want to get in trouble.
Many work places like hospitals and LE don’t shut down for the holidays. Mr. b’s LE but we never whined about him working. Fine, have the big meal before or after their shifts. Ain’t no big deal. Leave the stores open for shoppers to get out and walk the pumpkin pie off.
The blue laws were ridiculous. Try being on vacation and you forgot the can opener. Nope, sorry, can’t sell you a can opener to open a can of beans so go starve. Idiots.
How did having Sundays help other religions?
I'll take the days under blue laws over what we have to day. No question about it.
Was there a connection? I think there's more than you realize.
Good for them!
I kind of miss those days. Did make travel kind of tricky when gas stations not on the interstate or main US highways would close (some did).
I agree.
It shows respect for the day, the nation, and for humans, it recognizes that time can be more more important than a dollar, blue laws did that, they recognized God and that people and their private life matter.
PTL!
Very.
There was a time when even Sunday Baseball caused riots.
Now of course Sundays in this country are associated with NFL Football.
Many a time I had to sleep in the car in their parking lot waiting for a gas station to open in the morning on the interstate.
People used to close a businesses at night and take Sundays off, and for most businesses the owner was the guy running the gas station or flipping the burgers at the burger joint.
