A New Zealand navy ship carrying 75 crew members and passengers caught fire and sank off Samoa, but all on board are safe, the New Zealand Defence Force said on Sunday.
The Royal New Zealand Navy vessel HMNZS Manawanui ran aground near the southern coast of Upolu Island in Samoa while conducting a reef survey.
Videos shared on social media show thick plumes of grey smoke rising after the vessel, which cost the New Zealand government over NZ$100m (US$63m), ran aground.

DEI is a bad idea. If you want evidence, here is Samoa.
I had an Army buddy from Samoa. He told me it was nice this time of year.
Knock Knock!
Who’s there?
Samoa!
Samoa who?
We’re gonna need Samoa ships!
I wonder if the captainette will be relieved of command, as is usual for such a screw-up.
At some point, people will learn DEI is a STUPID IDEA. Until then, enjoy the Schadenfreude.
DEI = Didn’t Earn It!!!!!
If you’re aground, how far can you sink?
Which Samoa?
LOL!
Looks like they found one.

seems to me when Your ship goes down you’ve just been relieved of command. in her case the best solution is to go home and “go down” ...for some stress relief dontchaknow.
The old Western Samoa, that renamed itself to just Samoa and ticked off the folks in American Samoa big time.
The Royal New Zealand Navy vessel HMNZS Manawanui ran aground near the southern coast of Upolu Island in Samoa while conducting a reef survey.
“Have you sustained any casualties?”
“Matter of fact, the whole platoon’s wiped out, man!”
I see she didn’t go down with the ship
