Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Wednesday prompted by a decade-long CBS News California investigation into California's newborn genetic biobank. We still won't know who is using your DNA for research, or what the research is for, but the California Department of Public Health must now reveal the number of newborn DNA samples that California is storing and the number of DNA samples that the state sells to researchers each year.
In response to our decade-long investigation, lawmakers introduced several bills this year that were intended to shed light on how the state is amassing and using California's newborn DNA stockpile.SB 1099 was the only bill to survive the legislative session. While privacy advocates say it is a step in the right direction, recent amendments raise new questions about the appearance of state secrecy.

This is quite easy to deduce, because the Government doesn’t want you to know.

For starters they should DNA the father of all newborns even if the dad is female.
Next, take out a good $200 a month just in case he(or even she) skips out on their obligations.
Anyone know how long this has been going on? My kids were born in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
Good thing I had my babies in the 1980s when DNA still wasn’t “a thing.”

Every state has been taking newborn blood samples for YEARS in order to screen for various conditions which can be life-threatening. What happened to the samples? Good question.
Newsom must be getting writer’s cramp by now. And in signing those bills, more Californians have fewer and fewer freedoms.
