They are very lucky to have gotten out after a few months, vs years. It seems quite easy for any Westerner to “get in trouble” while in Dubai.

I’ve spent a few weeks there over several vacations and business trips. It’s a party zone but self-restraint is still expected. A good guide is if the locals aren’t doing it, you probably shouldn’t.
Never visit a muslim country.
I guess they must have a double-standard for ‘tourist visa’ folks - alcohol is served at all of the top nightclubs and at hotel bars to anyone over 21 (or 25 for some establishments), but these young men got 30 days for ‘alcohol consumption on a tourist visa”.
Dubai is not the place to go Beavis & Butthead.
They possibly consumed alcohol outside of an establishment.
Don’t venture to those Arab countries.
