Only 45% of Americans age 50 and older say they're likely to get the updated COVID-19 vaccine this season, according to a poll today from the University of Michigan.
The poll shows many at high risk of severe illness appear unlikely to seek the vaccine, and interest in an updated vaccine varies widely by age-group, education level, and other factors.
The results come from the National Poll on Healthy Aging conducted in August. At the time of polling, new COVID vaccines were not yet widely available, but they had been approved for use and endorsed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Among adults 75 and older, 59% said they were likely to get the updated COVID-19 shot, with 49% of them saying they’re very likely and 10% saying they're somewhat likely. Among adults 65 to 74, 51% said they were likely to get the vaccine.
Level of education plays a role Among those aged 50 to 64, more said they were unlikely to get the new vaccine; 55% unlikely, compared with 37% likely.
In 2023, nearly half of all US COVID hospitalizations were among those ages 75 and older.
The poll showed demographic differences as well. Adults with a Bachelor's degree were more likely to get vaccinated—54%, compared with 41% of those with lower levels of education. Overall, women were slightly more likely than men to say they would be vaccinated.

That's the part that pisses me off the most. A man-made biological that was released on the planet, with unknown damage (short-term and long-term) to those who become sick with it. We are doing zilch to punish those responsible for COVID-19's development and release.
No shots, no problems, no COVID. Neighbors had to get it due to work requirements. Both have had COVID twice since, one is now on a pacemaker at 61.
College educated people are more likey to take the covid fake vaccine without thinking because they are more indoctrinated than other people.
College was supposed to be a place where people increased their thinkingh ability. Instead it makes people more prone to trust without verification or thought.
That is nothing to brag about.
Yep, one-and-done for smallpox, polio, TB, and I don't know what all. When I was a kid, they used to give really large-dosage tetanus shots that were supposed to provide lifetime protection, too. I did let the doctor talk me into a tetanus booster 8 or 10 years ago, though.
No flu shots or covid shots yet for me, and no intention of getting any. Same with the shots for pneumonia, RSV, shingles, and anything else that's being pushed. My immune system does pretty well on its own.
I just recovered from my third bout a few days ago. I woke up with mouth sores and body aches. I thought maybe too much vodka and slept it off. I woke up feeling fine but had no taste or smell. Felt fine otherwise. I wouldn’t have thought about even bothering to test except it was free and sure enough. I still have no taste but just hiked 12 miles yesterday. So deadly and so mild I wouldn’t have even known I had it without testing. Even less severe than a cold for me at least.
“Adults with a Bachelor’s degree were more likely to get vaccinated—54%, compared with 41% of those with lower levels of education”
more proof an education does not make you smart.
First shot- narcotics to get you hooked.
If the first shot don’t kill you, we have more boosters.
If that don’t get you, we have new ‘strains’ to put out there.
A long time ago I had the flu for 2 weeks. Was bad.
Never even thought to go a doctor. Come thru great.
I believe in herd immunity.
I did get pneumonia shots about 4 years ago.
Not just the govt. the whole medical industry that cashed in on the scam. Trillions were handed out and basically stolen by hospitals. I know personally from church a 90 year old woman had a stroke and went to hospital where she died. The hospital wrote it off as a COVID death and got all the money involved. In Eastern California illegals who got it were put on LifeFlight medical planes and flown for free to hospitals in Los Angeles. All billed to the tax payer. Legal adults who got it were billed for the most expensive possible care and drugs. It was the biggest taxpayer scam since global warming.
I haven’t recovered from the last two!
Shortly after the shots I became seriously ill and have remain in that state.
The entire Covid nonsense was two things:
1. A deliberate bullying of Americans and a study in how to turn Americans against each other: the masked against the unmasked.
2. It was also an experiment to see how much shit the central socialist government can shovel on Americans before they break. It was a success!
Imho the shots did nothing.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that.
“Same with the shots for pneumonia, RSV, shingles, and anything else that’s being pushed.”
I’ve never had pneumonia or RSV but, trust me, you don’t want to get shingles. I did before there was a widely disseminated vaccine. Much worse than chicken pox, which I had (like most people my age) when I was a young kid.
“The US Governmental health agencies have destroyed trust.
It is the worst thing that has ever happened to medicine.”
The Fauci legacy.
Was the same Walgreen team at the border inoculating 1000s & 1000s illegal immigrants before they’re shipped around the US?
45% of older adults are old fools. By now most people should be familiar with a least one friend or relative who has died of Died Suddenly. The facts are out there and widely available now and even Fauci has said grudgingly that the vax can be dangerous.
Imagine if big Pharma was testing a vax which would get you to vote rat. Do you think their hundreds of DC lobbyists would have an easy job?
Even 45% is much too high.
49%, seems high.
I see a correlation with voting preferences. Women and the erudite prefer Kamala and vaccines.
It has been an eye-opener. I have come o learn that much of modern medicine is not to be trusted for lots of things I took for granted BC before the WuFlu. At 78 I do not take any prescription drugs and go to the doctor twice a year to keep my Medicare good. Every time he says I need a particular drug I say no thanks and research alternatives so I keep my arthritis in check with supplements, and my gout, and the other crotchets of old age.
I take vitamin D3 supplements daily. No flu or colds of any kind for two decades.
