A Cal Fire firefighter was arrested Friday for allegedly igniting five fires in the North Bay in recent weeks when he was off duty.
At 8 a.m. Friday, Cal Fire law enforcement officers arrested the 38-year-old Healdsburg resident at the agency's Howard Forest station in Mendocino County on suspicion of arson to forest land in the areas surrounding Geyserville, Healdsburg, and Windsor.
Fire officials believe he, a fire apparatus engineer, ignited the Alexander Fire on Aug. 15, the Windsor River Road Fire on Sept. 8, the Geysers Fire on Sept. 12, and the Geyser and Kinley fires on Sept. 14.
All five fires combined burned less than an acre of wildland due to quick actions of residents and fire suppression resources, Cal Fire said.
He will be booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of arson to forest land.
"I am appalled to learn one of our employees would violate the public's trust and attempt to tarnish the tireless work of the 12,000 women and men of Cal Fire,", Director/Fire Chief Joe Tyler said in a statement.
The agency thanked residents of the affected communities for their vigilance and information that helped in the apprehension of the suspect.

Happens all the time. Volunteers or sometimes payed small departments have an idiot that wants fires to happen for the action or the glory.
Firemen who work enough fires and see enough tragedy despise those types.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he was working on behalf of that POS Newsom. The CA government is full of the climate cult pissants and they’ll do anything to advance their agenda.

Those “qualifications” will get you a tryout IF an agency has openings. You are in no way, shape or form gonna just waltz in the front door and get issued a set of turnouts. Those who want to get into the career get Fire Science degrees, try to get work at Dispatch, do ride-alongs — it’s a protracted effort to get in the door as a Firefighter.
Candidates often try out with multiple agencies over periods of many months before they actually get the nod to come on-board, and NOBODY starts as an Engineer. You’ll pay your dues a long, hard time before you get that promotion.
