Over 100,000 beds were recalled this week following reports that they were breaking and collapsing during use...the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada issued a recall announcement for the Lucid brand "Platform Beds with Upholstered Square Tufted Headboards...The recalled beds can sag, break, or collapse during use, posing fall and injury hazards to consumers."
...there have been at least 245 reports "of the beds breaking, sagging or collapsing during use, causing 18 injuries, including contusions and bruises." Additionally, there were 11 reports of "bed failures" in Canada during use, while no further injuries were reported.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for almost 138,000 Lucid bed frames over issues with the product collapsing and breaking during use. Lucid has issued a recall for a discontinued model of its platform beds, which the company says were manufactured between 2019 and 2021.
Though production stopped years ago, the recalled beds were sold at major retailers through April 2024, according to the CPSC. Consumers may have purchased them from Amazon, Walmart, Lucid's website, and other outlets like Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, Home Depot, Macy's, Target.com, and Wayfair.
"This recall involves Lucid Platform Beds with an upholstered square tufted headboard in Twin, Full, Queen, King and Cal-King sizes. They were sold in beige, black, charcoal, cobalt, pearl, and stone colors. The recalled beds have wooden support beams and wooden support legs and a white federal law label with 'Made For: CVB INC, 1525 W 2960 S, LOGAN, UT 84321' printed on it.
The recall announcement states that customers should "immediately stop" using the recalled products [because they can collapse during use]. They can then contact the company for a free replacement bed frame.

Just here for the jokes...
Five little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“Hello, no more monkeys jumping on the bed!”
I was thinking of other uses that might have caused the beds to break.
Lucid brand made in China of course.
“...beds were imported from Malaysia...”
Malays didn’t know Americans weigh 2x+ than they do?
Lucid beds broke so they switched to making EVs.
Oh Lucid, I’m home!
And where were the beds made?
“Ma’am, in this showroom, we sell Bed-beds, the kind you use for resting and sleeping.... while in THIS showroom, we sell
the other kind, beds made for ‘Activites and Exploration’.
Those are the ones now equipped with shock absorbers.
So, which kind of bed are you shopping for today?”
I like Chinese
I like Chinese
There’s 900 million of them in the world today
You’d better learn to like them, that’s what I say
Jokes aside, when you pair a couple of obese Americans on a queen/king bed, the frame must support anywhere from 500-700lbs on average. Shifting, getting in/out of bed, ‘other activities’ all increase the forces on the frame to the breaking point.
Obesity combined with modern manufacturing of consumer wood products...
Headline: Color me shocked. /s
Even Ayn Rand didn’t predict that we’d devolve to the point of forgetting how to make functioning beds.
Too many fat people.
That’s hilarious!
I can’t be the only one here who remembers as a kid that our mattresses were laid on springs and the slats holding those sometimes would break and we’d fall to the floor...if nothing else, we got laughs out of it. That was before someone came up with the idea of innerspring mattresses.
