Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is an immigration designation available to Haitians and foreign nationals from 15 other countries that allows them to live and work in the U.S. for up to 18 months, subject to extension or redesignation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Many Haitians in Springfield are eligible to apply for TPS status and once approved for TPS they can immediately apply for a work permit. Immigrants who have the TPS designation or are applying for it may also apply for asylum, but face long waits for consideration of their asylum claims.
Congress created TPS in 1990, giving the executive branch authority to designate countries undergoing armed conflict, environmental disaster, or extraordinary and temporary conditions that prevented nationals from returning.
Foreign nationals outside the U.S. cannot apply for TPS, according to a July 2023 report by the Congressional Research Service.
“The statute specifies grounds of inadmissibility that cannot be waived, including those relating to criminal convictions, drug offenses, terrorist activity, and the persecution of others,” the report said.
There is no pathway to citizenship with TPS and immigrants can be deported once the period of time covered by the authorization ends. People who’ve been granted asylum or refugee status can apply for citizenship.

Like they do for animals ?
I read somewhere that TPS folks get a monthly stipend.
For example, Democrats need votes in November.
> Here’s how that works <
Let me give the abbreviated version: Democrats can do whatever the hell they want. Laws and regulations mean nothing to them.
And the GOP leadership? A few of them might go on Hannity and whine for a little. But that’s about it.
Apparently, they are “legally” in the country under temporary protective
Temporary. Till we all happen to forget about it, that is...
That’s the case also for the many of Africans you see these days. They are here “legally” because the Biden admin illegally bypassed normal procedures such as giving assylum to people who had gone thru several countries to get to USA and ask for assylum despite the fact that they entered other nations before USA therefore the danger they faced in their home country no longer exists once they left their original country.
They have also been given work permits. Saw one today gassing up a huge black shiny Caddilac Esclade.
The tale of Venezuelan murder, mayhem. chaos, and madness in suburban Colorado.
<><>Biden signs the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) into law,
<><>he handed over $3.8 billion tax dollars to Colorado.
<><>“the welcoming city of Denver,” launched its “Emergency Migrant Response” program,
<><>Denver’s goal was to provide housing and services to a massive flow of migrants.
<><>Denver signed multimillion-dollar contracts with local NGOs, ViVe Wellness and Papagayo,
<><>housing and services went to more than 8,000 predominantly Venezuelan migrants.
<><>The NGOs are run by foreigners w/ no previous experience in large-scale migrant resettlement.
<><>flooded with cash between 2023-2024, ViVe Wellness and Papagayo got $4.8M and $774,000
<><>funding came mostly from the Migrant Support Grant, funded by Biden’s ARPA.
<><>Then, in 2024, ViVe secured an extra $10.4 million across three migrant contracts,
<><>Papagayo received $2.9 million more from a single contract;
<><>monies ran “Denver Asylum Seekers Program,” six months rental to some 1,000 migrants
<><>Papagayo worked w/ CBZ Management,
<><>CBZ is a property company that operates three apt bldngs known as Aspen Grove.
<><>Papagayo placed Venezuelan migrants in the company’s Aurora apt complexes.
<><>When Venezuelans needed housing, regional property manager matched them w/ available apts.
<><>It was a booming business
<><>Papagayo arranged 100’s of contracts for two months of rental assistance,
<><>many migrants did not have, or were unable to open, bank accounts.
<><>in six months, approximately 80% of the residents were Venezuelan migrants.
<><>the buildings saw rising gang activity and violence.
<><>Papagayo made assurances to hesitant landlords that migrants had stable jobs and income.
<><>but limited English, 6-month wait for work permits, made migrants ineligible for jobs,
<><>migrants struggled to find stable jobs, and ultimately fell behind on rent.
<><>As the Venezuelan migrants settled in, they caused lots of trouble.
<><>the apartments saw a string of crimes,
<><>trespassing, assault, extortion, drug use, illegal firearm possession,
<><>human trafficking, and sexual abuse of minors abounded.
<><>Each of the three complexes has since shown a localized spike in crime.
<><>there’s shock at tax dollars blanketing NGOs not equipped to handle it.
The City of Denver, for its part, appears to be charging ahead. It recently voted to provide additional funding for migrant programs and, according to the right-leaning Common Sense Institute, the total cost to Denver could be up to $340 million, factoring in new burdens on schools and the health-care system. And the city also appears to have no qualms about exporting the crisis to the surrounding suburbs, including Aurora, which, in 2017, had declared itself a non-sanctuary city.
The truth is that there is no sanctuary for a city, a county, or a country that welcomes—and, in fact, attracts—violent gang members from Venezuela. This is cruelty, not compassion. Unfortunately, it might take more than the seizure of an apartment building, a dramatic rise in crime, and a grisly murder for cities like Denver to change course.
Governments allowing and encouraging Illegals to destroy towns and cities
Is that anything like "Open Season"?
So apparently they are claiming they are refugees to let them in and give them benefits.
On the bright side, solved Springfield’s problems with stray cats and Canadian geese.
That’s all well and good, but who made the decision to dump 20,000 of these Haitians into a community of only 60,000 residents knowing that they would overwhelm local resources? Were local officials including the Governor notified? Why was Springfield picked as the community to recieve this mass relocation?
Revoke their TPS and send them home or to any country willing to take them.
FTA-——Countries currently designated for TPS are Afghanistan, Cameroon, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Honduras, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The CRS report said there were about 610,630 foreign nationals protected by TPS as of March 31, 2023.
TPS was first approved for Haitians in 2010 after a major earthquake devastated the country and has been redesignated or extended several times. President Trump attempted to end it for Haiti but legal challenges stopped that.
After Biden took office in 2021 his administration extended and redesignated TPS for Haiti, which allowed additional Haitians already in the country to become eligible.
Those are ALL SHIITEHOLE COUNTRIES!!
yup
Ohio used to be a swing state, this was a lame attempt to flood it with future Democrat voters IMO
