The Houthis fired a surface-to-surface missile that reached Israel at 6:32 a.m. on Sunday morning, local time, triggering sirens all over the area near Tel Aviv, but exploding in an open area without causing any damage.
The missile was detected in the midst of the morning news broadcast on Army Radio, taking the announcer by surprise. At first, it was unclear whether the sirens had been caused because of rockets fired from the south (Hamas) or the north (Hezbollah); then a report came that it had actually entered Israeli airspace from the east, sparking speculation that it had been fired by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq; then confirmation came that it had actually been fired by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen, taking a circuitous route to enter Israel from an unexpected direction.

The Houthis started playing with fire
Unless there is a willingness to put boots on the ground, take casualties and root out the Houthi nests, these attacks will continue and the sea lanes will remain dangerous and closed. The Europeans and the Americans, other than a hugely expensive naval presence, are not disposed to fight the Houthis and the Israelis, while annoyed, do not view them as a serious threat to their country or economy.
Here’s a question: Why doesn’t someone destroy the source of the missiles? Press a button and problem solved.
I disagree. We know the source of these attacks.
Axios is reporting that a Houthis spokesman is claiming it was a “hypersonic” missile. Which is absurd. You don’t just stick a bigger booster under a rocket and make it go Mach 5. The Houthis don’t have either the technology or the hardware to build anything so sophisticated.
Even more ludicrous, why would you claim you’d fired something so potentially devastating, even though it didn’t injure anybody — the only injuries reported were nine people who hurt themselves running to an air raid shelter? In fact, it blew up in the air, and the nature of the debris that fell to earth would seem to indicate it’s wasn’t a deliberate “air burst,” the whole schmere was a botched job and it failed in flight before it reached the target.
For the Houthis it was the worst kind of mistake, because it tipped off the Israelis to what they’re working on but failed to do any damage. The IDF likely will have defensive countermeasures in place before the Houthis can work the kinks out of their buggy missile.
Israel needs to DESTROY THEIR ENEMIES UTTERLY...
Agreed.
Again I pose the question: why has Yemen not been turned into a parking lot yet? We cannot afford to have global commerce shut down by a bunch of goat herders with missiles.
