The battery hit temperatures of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit while it was on fire.
California firefighters used about 50,000 gallons of water to put out a Tesla Semi fire after a collision, the National Transportation Safety Board said on Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, an aircraft also dropped fire retardant on the “immediate area” to bring the fire under control, the agency reported.
The battery hit temperatures of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit while it was on fire.
The truck hit a tree while going around a curve on Aug. 19. Tesla's autopilot feature was not engaged, according to the agency report.
The NTSB said it would examine the battery for potential issues that pose fire risks.

How big is a 50,000 gallon water tank?

Lots of stories like this one. The highway between LA and Vegas was shut down for days after a truck with a 4 battery packs crashed and burned.
That right there is the very definition of a "Cubic F*ck-Ton".
It blocked I-80 for 12 hours.
Will be real fun if these start showing up in any number.
Thank you! Now I know how much a "Cubic F*ck-Ton" of water weighs. Ya learn somethin' every day on FR. :-)

4 swimming pools of water...
It’s Kalifornia, they’ve got plenty of water....
Will every EV sold come with a mandatory, extra-cost "technical expert" annual subscription package? The truck-tractor departed the roadway to the right while navigating a right-hand curve and uphill grade...The vehicle’s lithium-ion electric battery system ignited after the roadway departure, resulting in a postcrash fire.
Tesla deployed a technical expert to the scene to assist in assessing high-voltage hazards and fire safety.
"OnStar...what is your emergency?""I drove my Bolt off the road and into a tree. Please send a technical expert ASAP."
Here's what happens in a lithium battery fire:

How are Honda hybrids I wonder….
Uh oh recalls, 😂 for fire risk !
I’ll stick to my gas engine thanks.
Like CA has water to waste on stuff like this.
Just another strike against EVs.
A typical 25 yard or meter 8 lane high school swimming pool with a diving well is about 100,000 gallons.
Seems like the 50,000 gallons would actually be to keep too much of the surrounding area from catching fire, and not actually to extinguish the battery fire.
Wow, I had not seen that bus fire video before.
I’ve ridden on battery buses in Banff, Alberta and like them. They are quieter on the inside, but the real benefit is the lack of diesel noise, smoke, and fumes for those dinning on the street or strolling on the street.
BUT, that Paris video raises real concerns about how fast you can evacuate a fully loaded bus. Those lithium fires take of so fast that I’m not sure everybody could get out before the interior turned into a white-hot inferno.
Totally worth it to save the planet from “climate change”.
