Thanks for taking us on another great Road Trip, Lauren!
I think that’s an F-105.
The angle of the photograph pretty much hides the air intakes.
I have the name Bolling Air Force Base stuck in my head.
Was it ever anything else before it was named a joint base?
Good evening to you PROCON!
Howdy Brian Griffin!
It was Bolling Air Force Base before the merge.
Before European colonization, the area where Bolling Air Force Base is located was inhabited by the Nacotchtank, an Algonquian people. The largest village of the Nacotchtank was located just north of the air force base, south of Anacostia Park.
Another Nacotchtank village is believed to have existed on the base grounds, where two ossuaries (burial mounds) were discovered in 1936. Other Nacotchtank archaeological sites have been found at Giesboro Point on the Potomac River.

The Navy began testing seaplanes at this facility in 1918, and eventually it became a naval air station, supporting conventional aircraft. Located immediately north of Bolling Air Force Base, NAS Anacostia remained in service as an active naval air station until 1962, when its runways were deactivated along with Bolling’s due to traffic pattern conflicts with the nearby Washington National Airport.
Redesignated as a naval support facility, NSF Anacostia served as the headquarters for Commander, Naval Installations, Navy Office of the Chief of Information and continued to maintain a large heliport facility, primarily used by Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) in support of “Marine One” presidential transport operations with VH-3D and VH-60N aircraft. These activities remained when the base was incorporated into the larger Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling.

I never realized it was there even though I’ve seen the presidential helicopters.
I guess I assumed the presidential helicopters not only flew to Andrews AFB, but also that they were stationed there. Not the case it seems.

To all our military men and women, past and present,

Hi Kathy!
*HUGS*
The unpacking continues. I’d give away all my shoes if someone would come unpack my boxes.
Happy to be here, but my gosh what a pile. And half my stuff is in storage.
Yikes!
We are going to finally be getting into a cooling spell with temps in the 70's again, son and I hope to get out to the range again soon.
What's up your way?
I just dug out “A pocket map of SUBURBAN WASHINGTON” by the National Geographic Magazine of September 1948.
It shows a Naval Receiving Station to the west of old Anacostia, a Naval Gun Factory to the north and a Naval Air Station to the southwest.
Shirley Highway to the south of Little River Turnpike was marked as under construction.
Fairfax County had very little development.

Sounds like more downsizing is in order. LOL!! Take your time and don’t hurt anything.

Bible in a Year :
To all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
When Jay Speights of Rockville, Maryland, took a DNA test, nothing could have prepared him for the results he received. They contained a big surprise—he was a prince of the West African nation of Benin! Soon he boarded a plane and visited the country. When he arrived, the royal family greeted and showered him with a festive homecoming—dancing, singing, banners, and a parade.
Jesus came to earth as God’s good news announcement. He went to His own people, the nation of Israel, to give them the good news and to show them the way out of darkness. Many received the message with apathy, rejecting the “true light” (John 1:9) and refusing to accept Him as Messiah (v. 11). But unbelief and apathy weren’t universal among the people. Some people humbly and gladly received Christ’s invitation, accepted Him as God’s eventual sacrifice for sin, and believed in His name. A surprise awaited this faithful remnant. He “gave [them] the right to become children of God” (v. 12)—to be royal children of His through spiritual rebirth.
When we turn from sin and darkness, receive Jesus, and believe in His name, we discover we’re children of God, adopted as royalty into His family. May we enjoy the blessings as we live up to the responsibilities of being the King’s kids.
Reflect & Pray
How should being a child of God affect you? What will you do this week to live out your status and responsibility as His child?
Father, it’s amazing that through Jesus’ death You invite me into spiritual royalty. I’m humbled and grateful.
Learn more about having a personal relationship with God.
Howdy, Kathy.
Fingers crossed the day has gone smoothly.
Another drizzly day up there, I see.

Howdy, PRO.
YAY! Glad things are going to cool off again. 70s are perfect. Really great for range time, if y’all are able to arrange to go. Work does have a nasty habit of getting in the way sometimes. Weather does too.
Not a whole lot going on down here. We had a gorgeous weekend with highs in the 70s but are warming back up for the next couple of days. Then we’ll get a good soaking from Francine when the remnants move up here. We NEED the rain.
