San Francisco Announces Plans To PUNISH Businesses For Fleeing Due To Rampant Crime

Retail stores are fleeing San Francisco in droves as the California city collapses under the weight of rampant crime and theft. And rather than deal with the crime problem, city leaders instead want to punish the stores trying to leave.

The so-called “Grocery Protection Act,” introduced by city Board of Supervisors member Dean Preston (Democratic Socialist), says stores that try to leave San Francisco would have to provide the city with six months’ notice, allowing city leaders time to look for a replacement retail tenant.

This bill was introduced not long after Whole Foods Market closed down its flagship San Francisco store after just a year of being there. Crime was so rampant at Whole Foods that the store was losing more than it was selling, prompting it to vacate the premises.

Not only that, but workers at the now-closed Whole Foods location were routinely threatened with weapons as vagrants flooded the store. Homeless people would throw food at staff and provoke fights, with some even defecating on the floor, creating a health hazard.

An astounding 570 emergency calls were logged at the now-defunct location, all of these occurring in just a single calendar year. One of the calls involved an employee reporting that a “male [with] machete is back,” and another in which “another security guard was just assaulted.”

So stay. They should pull down the established hours and lock the doors and then open for exactly 1 minute per day on a sporadic basis.

Ohio did this under Gov Celeste years ago by levying an “Exit Tax” equal to 6 months wages to “cover retraining and unemployment claims”. Many companies were leaving the Rust Belt for more business-friendly employment opportunities in the South. After about 9 months of this law, someone noticed that there were no new business formations in Ohio.

To their credit, the rescinded the law. It would appear that SF didn’t get the memo. The fact that they are even thinking about it will only serve to hasten the exit.

You could just rename your store:

GOING OUT OF BUSINESS

Get out NOW.

Don’t give them the opportunity to make this the law and then trap you.

Matthew 24:16-18
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

100% control of businesses is what they want. They take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way to grab a little more.

The end result is communism, where the state owns everything and the citizens have nothing and pretend to be happy.

The Baltimore Colts solved this problem years ago.

I knew the Colts left but didn't realize the attempted seizures that the Maryland Democrat governor Harry Hughes had tried.

March 27, 1984: The Maryland State Senate passed legislation to enable the city of Baltimore to seize the Colts through eminent domain.

March 28, 1984: Moving trucks arrived at 10 pm in a snowstorm and began loading the Colts' items, including their Vince Lombardy Trophy. By dawn, the trucks, taking different routes to avoid Maryland state troopers from potentially stopping the column, were on route to Indianapolis.

March 29, 1984: Maryland Governor Harry Hughes (Democrat) signed the eminent domain bill.

March 30, 1984: Maryland filed an eminent domain suit but it was too late.

Later lawsuits filed by Baltimore to reclaim the team's name, logo, and memorabilia failed.

“Ayn Rand and Georgia Orwell were prophets.”
Yep, along with Aldous Huxley.

I suspect such an act would convince those businesses who were crazy enough to consider retailing in SF to not do it. And what happens if they can’t get a replacement business within six months? Make it indefinite?

Life used to be so much better four years ago — before the Boogeyman and Kamala took over and opened the borders while shutting down the cities. Most are still going down with no hope or plan in sight. That’s why we desperately need a builder to rebuild the cities and country — and not just do nothing waiting for the unlimited free money from the federal government. We need a plan beyond taxing more.

Huxley, Orwell and Rand were 20th century prophets who tried to warn us of what was coming.

Or else what?   They forfeit the security charge on their U-Haul vans when they get to Galt's Gulch?

The “Directive,” if ever put into Law, is UNCONSTITUTIONAL, every damn word of it.
California is a, communist wannabe, criminal state.
Let’s start boycotting them to knock some sense into their collective minds.

I didn't see any specific punishment in the article except the threat of lawfare:

If Preston’s bill passes, any store like Whole Foods that tries to leave without six months’ advanced notice would be considered non-compliant, subjecting it to potential legal proceedings.

...stores that try to leave San Francisco would have to provide the city with six months’ notice...

People are being forced to operate businesses against their will for six months?

That sure sounds like slavery to me.
