TULSA, Okla. — FOX23 heard from the brother of a man who Tulsa Police said shot two people in self defense, killing one of them.
Tulsa Police said the two people shot were part of a group that went after the man on Tuesday night in a north Tulsa neighborhood near Apache and M.L.K.
The second person shot is in critical condition.
FOX23 spoke with the brother of the shooter who said this has been an ongoing issue with this group that unfortunately escalated.
”I'm sorry for that family, and whatever is going on with them, but I told them not to mess with him. They kept doing so it just escalated from there,” said Anthony Hall, brother of the homeowner.
Hall is the older brother of the man who fired the deadly shots in what police said appears to have been self defense.
TPD is not releasing the man's name because he wasn't arrested, but Hall said he got word of what happened over the phone.
“I got a call on the phone and said there had been a shooting in my home. There was some guys that kept coming around him and when he got off work they'd be messing with him and stuff like that. Evidently that's what had happened, they did it again and I told them don't mess with my brother,” Hall said.
FOX23 was on the scene on Tuesday night reporting on breaking news of TPD responding to the shooting in Hall's front yard in a neighborhood near Apache and M.L.K.
FOX23 sat down with TPD Capt. Richard Meulenberg on Thursday who explained what went down.
“About five individuals came on to the homeowner's property and kind of rushed him and pinned him up against his car and started to assault him. With overwhelming odds against him he did pull a pistol out and started firing,” Meulenberg said.
Meulenberg said when officers arrived, they found 47-year old Marco Richardson in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his chest. He died from his injuries a short time later in the hospital.
Richardson's 31-year-old son was also shot and flown to the hospital by a medical helicopter.
“I don't want bad things to happen like that but a person have to respect someone in their own dwelling. You can't just run over them,” Hall said.
Police are calling this a self-defense homicide and have this message for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation.
“All we would advise people to do is really understand the law. If you can avoid confrontation with people, that's always best. So unless your absolute last resort is to defend yourself, try to call other avenues. Try to call us,” Meulenberg said.
Once TPD is finished with its investigation, they will give all evidence to the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office.
The DA will then make the final decision on whether any charges should be filed against the shooter.
FOX23 spoke with Tulsa Police Captain Andrew Mackenzie at the scene.
"We're still doing our thing and working the scene, processing witnesses and talking to witnesses. The detectives are showing up to do their end of it," Mackenzie said.
FOX23 will provide further updates as they become available.
Wounded assailant may not survive.
Good shooting against some bad hombres.
First and second generation Thugs.
It’s a family tradition.

Polo!
“...in a north Tulsa neighborhood near Apache and M.L.K.”
When it happens on a street named ‘M.L.K.,’ Boo Boo doesn’t have to ask if it’s them again.
The reporter has an interesting name: Paris Rain. Rain, with no ‘e” at the end.
I wonder if this is the same Marco Richardson?
Paris Rain might be a pen name.
Unless Marco has any older children, he was a baby daddy by 16. I’d hate to guess how much that thug and his baby mama has cost society. Marco has had previous arrests too.
/bingo
Paris Rain has a cousin named Golden Shower.
Just 16 years difference in age between father and son .
It seems like Google Maps should give driving directions that avoid streets named M.L.K.
Or “Barack Obama Boulevard”
Certainly the right age, 43 in 2021 article and this one is 47 in 2024.
Oh, no! Who’s going to tell her about the double meaning?
We’re not talking Golden Slumbers, as people of a certain age may know is from that Abby Road melody round up by The Beatles.
I wish Micrsoft would have implemented the “avoid ghetto” feature in their mapping software.
The joy of Microsoft’s ‘avoid ghetto’ GPS patent
Microsoft is granted a patent for a GPS that will help pedestrians avoid high-crime areas and high-heat areas. Some say this will discriminate against poor neighborhoods.

“Apache and M.L.K.”
Good title for something.
