A man who stoked a fire outside a hotel housing more than 200 asylum seekers has been jailed for nine years - the longest sentence passed to date after widespread violence erupted across the UK last month.

Thomas Birley, 27, was seen piling chipboard onto a burning bin outside the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, South Yorkshire, during rioting on 4 August.

Sheffield Crown Court heard those inside feared they were "going to burn to death", while Judge Jeremy Richardson KC described it as "one of the worst of many cases" he had dealt with.

Passing sentence, Judge Richardson said: “[This was] nothing to do with legitimate public protest. It was mob rule. The venom of racism affected the entirety of what occurred.

“People inside thought they were going to die. The lives of at least 50 people were endangered. They were all mentally scarred and in peril of being killed or injured.

I guess this judge is just fine, though, with all of the cases of rape and murder committed by invaders.

Prayers for Great Britain.

It is an arson case. The sentence may excessive, but prosecution is justified.

There is a beef with the two-tiered “justice” system, though. An “immigrant” doing the same thing may not even have been arrested.

“...he admitted arson with intent to endanger life.’

They will lock you up for that.

It is an arson case.

Setting a hotel or other building on fire, filled with people, even people you don’t like, deserves to be punished. It’s not defensible.

Why the hell would you assume that?

Around one quarter of people in London jails are Muslim apparently.

He was burning stuff in a dumpster OUTside the hotel. The building was not on fire.

Had he just been burning a dumpster outside the hotel, it would be one thing. He was trying to set the hotel on fire with the dumpster. If it’s the footage I saw, the dumpster was shoved into an entrance.

There are far too many instances of people in the U.K. being imprisoned for virtually nothing, eg ‘yelling at a police dog’, but this was something that would be punished almost everywhere. (Unless it was a ‘Free Palestine’ demonstration).

Not denying he should be punished but would a illegal or third worlder doing the same thing have been punished as much?

Probably not. Their rich cultural traditions regarding burning people alive would have to be taken into account as a mitigating factor. /s

The British muslims who broke a policewoman’s nose at Manchester Airport are still quite free.

Two-Tier Justice?
On New Year’s Day, Yousef Abdinesir, an asylum seeker set a fire INSIDE an English hotel being used to accomodate his fellow illegal immigrants.
Fortunately, staff on duty fought the fire and were able to contain it until the fire service arrived. More than 10 fire appliances and 40 firefighters attended.

Complete blackout on his sentencing, if indeed he has been sentenced or the case delayed again:

People should not commit arson, or try to burn people alive. They should go to prison.

But it sounds like he just put wood in an already lit trash can fire outside the hotel. Was there ever a real threat to the people in the hotel? Was the hotel set on fire? Hard to tell from the excerpt.

You have no clue what you are talking about. In Britain the citizen is always charged. The invader is rarely, if ever, charged. They groom & rape the women, and nothing happens. They stab people and might get charged.

Go live there, actually it will be here before we know it if Trump fails to retake the Presidency.
