The Soviets were terrified of Ronald Reagan, and rightly so, actor Jon Voight told Newsmax on Monday.
Voight played the role of Russian spy Viktor Petrovich in "Reagan," a biopic about the late president, which came out Friday. He and the film's director, Sean McNamara, spoke to "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE" about the making of the movie and the 40th president's legacy.
Voight said the spies assigned to keep tabs on Reagan "kept giving reports back that this guy was standing up against communism, saying an awful lot of things that were concerning to them.
"And then he became a political force. Gradually, they saw his political talent as well, and they got the reports back in these files that said, 'This man says what he means, and he means what he says,'" Voight said. "So when he started speaking out, they became really frightened, and they were right to be frightened, because in the in the end, he found a way to dissolve the Soviet Union."

Something just as good the democrats are terrified of Trump.
He’s the laser aimed and ready for release.
We saw the movie last night. Sort of slow in his pre national years, very, very good afterwards. I highly recommend the film.
Well, it was mostly because our MSM was always touting that Reagan was a “cowboy with his finger on the nuclear button.”
Liberals were dumbfounded so many like Reagan.
I went to see this movie yesterday and found it simply fantastic. Dennis Quaid plays the role so convincingly. Reagan was one of the greatest presidents until Donald Trump came along and became the new GOAT. If Reagan were president today, we would never have the problems we have, just like if Trump was still president. I’d love to go back to the 1980’s again or better, 2017.
And I can only hope his vengeance is sweet.
And America’s own marxists are terrified of Trump.
History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes
I watched “Reagan” on Saturday. Jon was his usual terrific self. Dennis Quaid was fantastic as Dutch. But I was super impressed with Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan.
It is the only movie that I could remember sitting through the entire credits, which end with scenes from President Reagan’s funeral. Yes, I was bawling.
Saw the flick. Reagan won the Cold War by lowering taxes and building up defenses to where the Soviets couldn’t compete, proving that communism doesn’t work.
Trump may have the same thing in mind with our oil drilling capacity being unchained. No need to fire shots anywhere.
what? wHaT? WHAT? WHATWHATWHAT?
You just nailed the true intent behind this climate change BS. It's not to protect the environment. If that's the case, these activists would be demanding building of new nuclear power plants everywhere. The true goal, as you implied, is to hamstring the United States and other Western powers economically in favor of China and other communist states.
And he knows this how? No more than the rest of us.

The movie reviews.
They won’t be kind. Hollywood hated Reagan. Timing of the release is interesting-election. I was expecting Patti Davis to make a nude scene and the dancer make an idiot of himself. They were X’d out-good. What we got was a pretty decent love story with all the factual drama being confined to world events-doesn’t turn on movie goers. I hope the attendance is big.

I appreciate that. Still Trump has to win. Is it the people that can be trusted as Reagan suggested or are we too far gone? We’re definitely in trouble like we were under Carter.
Definitely stay until the end of the credits, there are photos of significant events. I think the thing I most appreciated was the way they portrayed Nancy. The media was so disrespectful of her, I was always suspicious of her intention and relationship with Reagan, Penelope Miller did an awesome job portraying her as a loving, and protective wife. In my opinion, that was the best part of the movie.
