A top Ukrainian pilot was killed when a US-made F-16 fighter jet crashed on Monday, a Ukrainian Defence Forces source told CNN.
The Ukrainian Defence Forces do not believe pilot error was behind the incident, the source added.
The pilot, Oleksiy Mes known as “Moonfish,” was killed in the crash while “repelling the biggest ever aerial attack” by Russia against Ukraine, said the source, adding that the pilot was buried on Thursday.

Planes cannot be made fool-proof, but, according to the Ukraine defense officials, those planes should be ‘bullet-proof’, or capable of sustaining any kind of damage from ground-based counter measures.
I heard there’s a war going on there.
There goes, what, $20,000,000 of US taxpayers money.
Did anyone say that specifically, probably not, but Zelensky and others were pleading for more and better weapons, things like the Abrams Tanks, ATACMs missiles, 155mm artillery, etc., were all at one time or the other denied to Ukraine and then given to them with the implied claim that Ukraine could now push Russia out of Ukraine.
There is a reason why pilots need thousands and thousands of hours on a particular craft to be considered an expert.
“repelling the biggest ever aerial attack” by Russia against Ukraine”
Sounds like propaganda from the ministry of truth.
Was it the “Ghost of Kiev” or whatever he was called?
According to various sources on the interwebs, the cost of an F16 can vary from as little as $25 mi!lion to $70 million, depending on age, condition, upgrades, etc.
I’ll call sabotage....This was “1”.
That being said, the Ukrainians will never admit to an F-16 being shot down without undeniable video footage or other evidence proving them wrong.
This was shooting drones over Ukrainian territory. So he wasn’t shot down.
He was, however, flying very fast and very low, focusing guns (probably) on a slippery target.
In all probability, he flew into the ground, which is easy to do in that circumstance.
When I worked in aerospace, the old rule of thumb was “Pilot lives, airplane’s fault. Pilot dies, pilot’s fault.”
Nope. They ask for weapons and military assistance. They ask for the means to defend themselves. I have seen no claims of guaranteed victory, just a fighting chance. It would be foolish to ever make such claims, and your making it sound as if they made such claims is disingenuous at best. We would all be better off if we stuck to facts presented or asked good questions about facts not presented, rather than making bogus claims. That applies to both sides.
These were old planes from surrounding nato countries.
Ukrainian military pilot, with low time in type, crashes a US-made F-16, simultaneously incinerating $25M US taxpayer dollars.

Actually, I think the chumps in Denmark or Norway are paying for this round. They "donated" the planes, didn't they?
Top Pilot....No such thing as a Top Ukie Pilot on an F-16.
I agree. Ukraine and CNN are always lying.
