Two incidents of vandalism have reportedly taken place at Gettysburg National Park within one week. On August 15, park officials reported that multiple boulders had been defaced with graffiti inscribed onto the faces of large stones on Little Round Top, the National Park Services (NPS) reported.

Yep. That was in Boston, MA, right in front of the State House. (One of my favorite monuments in Boston.)

A local American Legion found graffiti on its WW II memorial. A nightwatch was organized.

The sheriff expressed gratitude that the perpetrators, after they were caught, suffered only multiple bruises and cuts.

The graffiti ended.

Little Round Top is not as high or as steep as it was. Before historical preservationists got around to Gettysburg, it was used for tank target practice between WW1 and WW2.

I have maintained for a long time that vandalism should be dealt with in this manner:

The perp should be required to clean up his own mess and that of some others. Then, he is to be placed in a cage in a mall, our modern equivalent of the village square, for a certain period of time. While he is there, passersby may not harm him physically, but they can verbally abuse him as much as they care to.
