Ukrainian forces have captured more than 240 Russian soldiers since their surprise invasion of Russia’s Kursk region this month, according to an analysis of visual evidence that includes mass detentions of young troops appearing to surrender without resistance.
The Washington Post reviewed more than 130 photos and videos taken since the incursion began Aug. 6, most of which appear to have been filmed by Ukrainian soldiers and shared on social media.
The analysis also included photos taken by a Post photographer at a prison housing captured Russian soldiers in Ukraine. The verified visuals depict at least 247 Russian prisoners and support Ukrainian officials’ claims to have captured hundreds of Russians during the incursion.
Some of the captured troops identify themselves in the videos as conscripts, Russians who are serving mandatory time in the military. Conscripts are not generally expected to face battle, and their capture in recent days creates a politically sensitive problem for Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to analysts.
"It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a video of Russian soldiers surrendering en masse like that,” said Dara Massicot, a senior fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. “My instinct upon seeing those videos was that those soldiers were not combat-experienced troops who have been fighting inside Ukraine.”

Putin masterminded this to starve the Ukrainians by giving them too many POWs to feed. Brilliant! /s

Ukraine is not having a fun day today. Russian activity in the area over the last couple of hours (of course they are also bombing and taking much more land to south near the near Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Zelene Pole, Myrolubivka, Hrodivka, Ptyche, Novohrodivka areas). The only winner is the Military Industrial Complex who is bathing in the blood of young men and women on both sides.

What Pokrovsk doink?
We used to get actual information on FR, instead of incessant cheerleading for the neocons’ Ukraine Project, where there are zero Ukrainian casualties as they move from victory to victory.
Clown.

Ukraine has lost 4,000 soldiers in Kursk so far. That’s a lot of scores.

The only winner is the Military Industrial Complex who is bathing in the blood of young men and women on both sides. China is the obvious winner.
Russia and the USA are China's obvious potential antagonists.

The number 247 isn't very impressive. I will wait a month or so before deciding if this incursion is a success or just another hollow attack for propaganda purposes. Time will tell if Ukraine can resupply and hold this territory. If they do hold on in the Kursk region will it cause them to lose ground on other parts of the battlefield?

The average age of a Ukrainian soldier is now 45. Nearly all of their losses are classified, but underage boys and older men have been forcibly taken while engaged in their normal routines and forced to become canon fodder in I’ll a advised adventure such as this latest fiasco. Zelensky and company know their funding is about to dry up completely and their military is o its last legs. This Kursk fiasco is nothing more than media event in a last ditch effort to secure continued foreign assistance.
From the reactions here you can see that the lower end of the bell curve are easily taken in by this form of fluff. But the fact remains that there are no obvious strategic interests at stake, in what is almost certainly going to be very costly in both men, munitions, and hardware. So far the actual decision makers Who ever they are do not seem very impressed.
