Emergency declared as American Red Cross runs out of blood for life-saving donations
Daily Mail ^ | 14 August 2024 | Luke Andrews Senior Health Reporter For Dailymail.Com

An emergency blood shortage has been declared in the US, with people urged to donate in order to boost supplies.

The American Red Cross said their stock of blood plummeted 25 percent in July, as extreme heat in much of the country led to fewer people turning up at donation centers.

At the same time, however, the organization said demand from hospitals has remained constant — putting a significant strain on their stockpile.

The blood shortage continues, and worsens, despite the new blood policy with allows some queer men to donate, which was supposed to solve all of our blood shortage problems. Remember?

Apparently, applying the eligibility requirements to make normal people meet the same standards in sexual behavior as high-risk homosexuals probably actually DISQUALIFIED some low-risk heterosexuals who used to be regular donors.

Who wants ole vaxed blood? Some vaxed people have found that lab techs had trouble drawing their blood.

I know a couple of those people.

Can you please elaborate on this? How would this disqualify less risky people?

Yeah....because to “the heat (aka: climate change)”. Hokay

I used to donate quite a bit because my blood type is not as prevalent in society but very useful. The red communist cross will be getting zero of my pureblood for the rest of my life.

.....and until only the last 2 or 3 years, I was prevented from donating because I was stationed in Germany during the mad cow disease outbreak.....

Come on folks. Donate! It takes less than an hour and they treat you great while you do it.

All it did was take up resources which could have been spent on getting normal people in to donate without navigating the newly constructed mine field of questions and dicey risks of getting an infected donation.

I'm looking for ongoing data on how much HIV positive donations have increased since the policy change. Somehow, I don't think that info will be forthcoming.

You haven't noticed that we are in a 'right is wrong, wrong is right' age yet? It's not just Orwell, but also biblical.

The FDA now applies the same risk standards of homosexuals to normal people.

The questionnaire asks the donor if he has had a new or multiple sexual partners in the past three months. If the answer is yes, then the follow-up is whether they had anal intercourse in the past three months.

This could apply to a newlywed man-woman couple, who got married 2 months ago (new sexual partner) and who may have engaged in anal sex or had another partner just prior to the wedding.

It makes sex risky BY DEFINITION, when heterosexual intercourse is far, FAR lower risk for HIV infection than for homosexuals. even if it's anal sex.

Same here......

I bypass The Red Cross and donate to a local entity where all the blood is donated to local hospitals.

Had the two original vacs. but declined boosters.

Giving up by the blood is easy, maybe 5 minutes after 20 minutes of qualifying questions and a hemoglobin test.

I’ve been giving platelets since the beginning of the year, and that’s a two to three hour procedure. The chairs are comfy and you have a Netflix TV screen in front of you. I spend the time watching a movie and squeezing the ball.
