I took a trip to Trump country. It was more bleak than I could have imagined
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | August 17, 2024 | Soleil Ho

Like a lot of folks who live in rural America, my extended family considers the local county fair in their corner of Illinois the biggest event of the summer. All year, they fantasize about the rides, the charcoal-kissed meat skewers and the stall that churns out fried cheese curds, those little molten pebbles enrobed in crisp chambers of light-as-air batter.

One of my cousins saw clusters of young men walking the grounds in floral Hawaiian shirts, which have recently become an unfortunate sartorial symbol of the far-right “boogaloo” movement, a militant group that aims to incite a second Civil War. I asked my cousin if he was sure about this because the idea seemed completely absurd. Maybe it’s just a bunch of dorky kids, I thought. But my cousin grew up there and probably went to school with their parents — he was sure. .

This lady doesn’t seem to like white people. I invite her when she returns to the Bay Area to a walk by herself in Oakland around midnight. Report back if she survives

Soleil Ho is one of those non-gendered turds who can’t see the irony of sniping from the homeless-infested c@rphole of San Fagcisco at regular Americans.

Gee, my local supermarket has been having "Hawaiian Shirt Fridays" for its employees all summer. Wait until I tell them they're fomenting rebellion!

No hoards of drugged out vagrants camping on your sidewalk, no used hypodermic needles and piles of human excrement to step over, no overpowering smell of urine wherever you walk, I can see why a liberal from San Francisco would be confused.

“the local county fair in their corner of Illinois the biggest event of the summer.”

My local county fair is a collection of meth smoking white trash. These are the same people who all go to Walmart on a Saturday evening wearing their pajamas. Far from the big event for the year. They are not Trump voters.

I used to visit the SF Chronicle website.

Not for the articles but the comment section.

The comment section was full of comments from people very familiar with the Bay Area and were readers of the local media.

There was little if any support for the local pols or the newspaper who was carrying water for the pols.

The paper closed the comment section because there was such a disconnect between the articles and the comments.

I wasn’t going to pay to read SF Chronicle, but from what was shown of the article it read like yet another insufferable, condescending lib. As to the floral print Hawaiian shirts, those paired with board shorts seem to be pretty common in Florida. I’m sure the writer would hate coming here which is fine by us.

There is no “boogaloo” movement. The left has to create boogey-men to motivate their base.
