FReeper Canteen ~ Sunday Chapel ~ ONE MEAN MOM ~ 18 August 2024
Serving The Best Troops and Veterans In The World !! | The Canteen Crew

FROM ONE MEAN MOM

We had the meanest mother in the whole world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less.

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.

She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds. Then, life was really tough! Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. They had to come up to the door so she could meet them. Everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13….we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property, or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault. We never got drunk, took up smoking, stayed out all night, or a million other things other kids did.

Sundays were reserved for church, and we never missed once. We knew better than to ask to spend the night with a friend on Saturdays. Now that we have left home, we are all God-fearing, educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was. I think that is what's wrong with the world today...it just doesn't have enough mean moms anymore.

Howdy, luvie.

I gather it was another toasty day.

Here today was pretty much a repeat of yesterday - hot, then occasional rain showers moved through. Watching a line of storms moving down towards us now.

Hey there, radu!

Yes, it was 100 again. *ho-hum* LOL! It’s getting VERY tiresome.

I’m glad you’ve had more showers. I’m guessing that there are still crops that need them. How are the soybeans faring?

We’ve had just enough “rain” this evening to cover the street and now it is mostly dry.

A very pleasant good Sunday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country.

Yesterday at Comanche before the heat.

Also we had ribs for supper.

And BTW, in case anyone wonders how I make the ribs, here is the recipe.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Very tiresome, indeed. I’m sure your poor kitties would agree heartily.

Today’s showers didn’t amount to much. Nothing like yesterday’s. Fortunately, what’s closing in tonight has calmed down and will only be rain. There were some nasty storms mixed in when they came down from KY.

I’m sure the guy who has the beans across the road is thrilled to get this rain. Very good timing to plump up the beans in the pods. The plants look very happy these days - very lush.
Most of the crops around here are past needing rain but there might be a few others who planted late like the guy across the road.

I noticed one field Dusty owns has been harvested already when I drove past it the other day. Obviously one of the first he planted. He has fields all over the county he either owns or rents. It won’t be too much longer before he gets the corn here.

It didn’t rain very long out by the airports either. The parking lots are getting dry spots now.

It’s about to get wet here again. Just rain this time. No storms. Whew!

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Gizmo gave you a good workout yesterday. LOL Built up a hearty appetite for those ribs.

Those farmers work so hard so I’m glad that their crops seem to be thriving.

Guess I’d better go. I’m already dreading that alarm in the morning. See ya tomorrow!

I wouldn’t say most of them thrived. At least they survived and there’ll be SOME yield, but it’ll be lower than it would have been if there’d been sufficient rain. Still better than no yield at all.

Good luck getting to sleep quickly so you don’t drag al day tomorrow.

This is a great video!!

Mom Brings Son’s F15 into Parking

Recently had the opportunity to arrange for two retired USAF NCO’s to meet their son when he flew an F15 into my location. Mom won the coin toss and got to block the aircraft into the parking spot.

Comments below the video:

“Just an awesome video. Mom parking her son’s fighter on the tarmac. Thank you all for your service!”
