Vice President Kamala Harris is promoting a broad set of economic proposals that would offer new tax breaks and lower the cost of living for Americans, aiming to address the financial concerns that are at the top of the mind for voters and that Republican Donald Trump is trying to lay at her doorstep.

Marxist, communist, and socialist regimes frequently employ price controls as part of broader central planning efforts. Elizabeth Warren is a recent advocate of price caps.

Today Vice President Harris will be proposing economic policies that she'd push for if elected president, including federal price controls and central planning. How will she explain this and defend it?

In just the past 10 years six countries have implemented communist central planning and price controls. Each are spectacular failures:

• Venezuela. Inflation before 254%, after 1,698,488%. Prices went up significantly. Unemployment increased.
• Argentina. Inflation before 53.8%, after 36.1%. Prices went up. Unemployment remained high.
• Zimbabwe. Inflation 175% before, after 837%. Prices went up. Unemployment remained very high.
• Sri Lanka. Inflation before 4.1%, 6% after. Prices went up. Unemployment increased.
• Turkey. Inflation before 19.58%, after 48.69%. Prices went up. Unemployment increased.
• Morocco. Inflaction before 0.9%, after 4.1%. Prices went up. Unemployment increased.

The media is universally panning the idea. A couple of headlines:

Price controls backfire. They lead to rationing and market distortions. I think we all know what happened during Nixon price controls. That’s when we got all different types of meat cuts so stores could avoid price controls. They even did this during the French Revolution. The price of bread was too high so the revolutionary government created price controls.
So guess what, no bread was available but the wealthy could still afford vermicelli pasta. This was the basis for Balczac’s Pete Goiroit.
