WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is zeroing in on the policy goals closest to his heart now that he’s no longer seeking a second term and will visit New Orleans on Tuesday to promote his administration’s “moonshot” initiative aiming at dramatically reducing cancer deaths.
The president and first lady Jill Biden will tour medical facilities, then, at Tulane University, will help announce $150 million in awards from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. Those will support eight teams of researchers around the country working on ways to help surgeons more successfully remove tumors for people facing cancer.
The teams receiving awards include ones from Tulane, Dartmouth College, Johns Hopkins University, Rice University, the University of California, San Francisco, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Washington and Cision Vision in Mountain View, California.
Before he leaves office in January, Biden hopes to move the U.S. closer to the goal he set in 2022 to cut U.S. cancer fatalities by 50% over the next 25 years, and to improve the lives of caregivers and those suffering from cancer.
Experts say the objective is attainable — with adequate investments.

He said he cured cancer in 2019.
At his regular 10%?
He’s trolling for a legacy.
Would that piddling amount of money have bought even one of hid sparky car charging stations? What a piker! What an insult to present and future cancer patients!
Hows about quitting sending untold billions to a foreign war to kill people and send that same money to fight cancer and keep people alive, Joey?
If by "cancer" he means Trump, then yes, that's what he's spending $150 million on fighting.
Wow… not even 1% of what he gave Ukraine.
THE LARGEST CANCER IN THE USA IS THE BIDEN CORRUPTION FAMILY
Go take a flying f at the moon, there’s your moonshot.
Send $150 billion each time to the money laundering of Ukraine, but a paltry $150 million for this.
Not much confidence in the healthcare industry anymore. Have seen where doctors would not use certain medicines so as to delay cure. They certainly sold out on COVID and hospitals inflated COVID reports to obtain higher government reimbursements. Would not surprise me that companies are sitting on cures so as to prolong sickness in order to bump the bottom line. Healthcare is almost as corrupt as Washington, who went a long way toward helping healthcare become corrupt.
Biden’s $150 Billion “moonshot” is just a grab for cash on his way out the door. Who wants to guess how much of that will end up in Biden’s pocket???
That may very well have ended with the deaths of those cancer doctors who were in the plane crash in Brazil. Supposedly, they were on their way to a cancer convention to present their cure. Big pharm can’t afford a cure.
And, like Pharm’s cashin on the vax, how much will actually benefit anyone but Pharm execs and politicos handed “campaign contributions”?
Spending $200 Billion on Ukraine, while spending $150 million on cancer seems to me to be a warped priority.
I didn’t know Planned Parenthood did cancer research./s
Agreed. The healthcare industrial complex is in it for the money, not for cures. Just watch any TV channel for 1 hour and you’ll be flooded with pharma advertisements.
I’m convinced that cancer is “curable” by changes to lifestyle, especially eating, genetics notwithstanding. I’d bet good money that there are already therapeutics on the market, such as Ivermectin, that are effective as oncocidals, but big pharma would lose their source of funding. God forbid they actually do no harm.
No, “but Donald Trump and his Ultra MAGA republicans don’t want to cure cancer” statements?
Biden is a small man with the smallest of dreams. To put another way, 150m will get you:
One plus a half missile for a HIMARS....
535 lawyers in congress not paying their college loans.
The amount of revenue lost by NYC for unpaid parking tickets with interest and fines for repeat offenders.
