MOSCOW, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Russia on Monday evacuated civilians from parts of a second region next to Ukraine after Kyiv increased military activity near the border just days after its biggest incursion into sovereign Russian territory since the start of the 2022 war. Ukrainian forces rammed through the Russian border last Tuesday and swept across some Western parts of Russia's Kursk region, a surprise attack that may be aimed at gaining leverage in possible ceasefire talks after the U.S. election. Apparently caught by surprise, Russia by Sunday had stabilised the front in the Kursk region, though Ukraine had carved out a sliver of Russian territory where battles were continuing on Monday, according to Russian war bloggers. In the neighbouring Belgorod region to the south, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said evacuations had begun from the Krasnaya Yaruga District due to "enemy activity on the border".

You certainly live up to your name, don’t you?
Strap & Tuck, and press those dresses boys. It's on to Moscow!
If the usuals claim is accurate then the performance by the Russians is even more embarrassing. More “goodwill gestures” by Putin
Interesting how when the Russians attacked in Kharkiv all we heard from the usuals were he the proved the Ukrainians were done for….
I thought this “incursion” was over in three days, that Russia had 3-4 full armies in reserve
How this plays out I have no idea, but a country doing well doesn’t usually have to go full censorship and evacuate territories.
IMO Ukraine is not winning, but after 2 1/2+ years neither is putin. Despite what the usuals say here
It’s 40 km south of Sudzha in the Kursk region where Ukraine has been advancing for the past week.
Belgorod’s governor has ordered an evacuation from the area.
Ukraine doesn’t have to win. Just like the colonists - they just can’t lose; biding their time
That is what the usuals “fail” to understand 😎
Russian love success, the “coup “, Kharkiv and kherson offensives show that when there is failure they do react, but there is a reason the “internal security” forces and budget rival the Russian military budget
Trump has already said Russia's position (what they've said they would settle for) is unacceptable. This adds a new wrinkle, if (a rather large if) Ukraine can hold territory in Russia for months. To me, that seems unlikely, but then the Ukies making any progress at all here seemed unlikely until it happened. In any event, expanding this front laterally does help the Ukies protect their flanks.
Or the Afghans, for that matter...
I figured a large part of the "reason" was lots of restless Muzzies in the population in some areas...
...once again highlighting the absolutely absurd rationale for US intervention: "Putin is Hitler! If we don't stop Putler now, he'll be in Paris next week!!" The Russian 'clown car' army that couldn't take Kiev and can't defend its own border is an existential threat to NATO & western Europe, we're told - oh, you betcha!
The desperation of Ukrainian and NATO authorities is full blown and on display in the Kursk region and the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. If you’re reading the legacy media, they cheering and celebrating the “smashing” Ukrainian victory and the utter embarrassment of Vladimir Putin. Only one teeny, tiny problem — it is bullshit.
Yes, this portion of Russia’s border was lightly defended, but when the attack came Russia countered immediately and has killed more than 50% of the invaders. Along with a body count in excess of 1300 Ukrainian and foreign mercenaries, Russia destroyed most of the tanks and armored personnel carriers. And, despite claims that Ukraine captured and controlled the village of Sudzha, the Russians are in control and mopping up desperate Ukrainians trying to avoid capture or death.
The objective of the Ukrainian attack was the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, which is some 30 kilometers north of Sudzha. In light of today’s Ukrainian drone attack on one of the cooling towers at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), it is clear the attack in Kursk was part of a broader Ukrainian plan to try to create some negotiating leverage with Russia. That has failed and, in the process of Russia’s counterattack, some of the best remaining Ukrainian brigades are being destroyed.
I love how you still adhere to the false Kremlin talking points despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. You’re very brave to not care how much FReepers here might think you’re a lying sack of shit and a Putin stooge.
This isn't about Russia. It's about all of our sleazy, dirty dealings in Ukraine And the fact that our elite have wasted $200 billion in Ukraine and care more about it than the mess we have here under Biden.
Take your talking points and shove them.
Oh, I see. Once someone points out your bullshit cheerleading for Putin and his army of bloodthirsty orcs is a pack of lies as they get their asses kicked, you have to switch the narrative to Biden?
Must be in the troll farm playbook. Yeah, no one is buying that crap.
Seems like that $200 billion or whatever you claim it to be wasn’t wasted after all.
There never has been a national interest in Ukraine. Everything we've done there has ALWAYS been about enriching the Western political elite and oligarchs and the defense industry.
If Russia or China had fomented an illegal coup in Mexico and trained, funded and armed a 600,000 man army there, WE, YOU NUMBSKULL, WOULD HAVE, JUSTIFIABLY INVADED.
Russia, REPEATEDLY, sought to prevent the present war -- with Minsk Accords, before the war began by coming to the Biden regime before the war began and in Turkey in March of 2022 when a peace deal was nearly complete before Boris Johnson killed it.
Trump has been targeted for nine years for opposing our meddling in other countries that has gotten us involved in messes like the one in Ukraine. And, SCUM LIKE YOU ARE SIDING WITH THE GLOBALIST and POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT THAT HAS BEEN TRYING TO DESTROY TRUMP.
You're scum, evil personified.
Wow, you are one frustrated and hysterical little monkey.
Nothing like the slow, burning realization that you’re on the wrong side. Lashing out is to be expected here, I guess.
Meanwhile I’ll go back reading about how Ukraine continues to take town after town. And it looks like Lukashenko is about to thrown the towel too.
We’ll all feel better when Putin gets strung up from a lamppost by his own people, won’t we? And share a few laughs, eh? And celebrate Ukraine’s freedom from a menacing neighbor that tried to destroy it.
That’ll turn that frown upside down.
