These dem counter tactics are not directed at the bases in the left or right but rather the so-called middle which are typically turned off by political squabbles.
So what the dems will do is obfuscate by making it look like just another ugly political mudslinging hoping that those in the middle will tune out of this skirmish.

Avoiding deployment is one thing, not, to be sure, the sort of thing you’d expect someone in Walz’s position to do, but it’s one thing. Bald-faced lying about it later is quite another. And if Keilar wants to find out how veterans feel about it, she should ask a few actual ones rather than speculating.

As a veteran, the speak outs against Walz’s dissembling and lies do not offend me, nor do they diminish me.
The best I can find is that he was enrolled in the 42 week Sergeant Major program which is available to Master Sgts and First Sgts to make them eligible for the rank of Sgt. Major. And we know he didn't complete that.
And I don't know if it's possible for a Master Sgt to assume the duties of a CSM if only temporarily.
